true, but let say they start the season with the current roster, do you have Matheson or Carrier on your top4?
have to go with Matheson imo. if he is still here of course.
and then there’s the injuries. how many games before Guhle hurts himself again?
    should be interesting

Tough question … between the 2, I much prefer Carrier for his defensive play, we were going nowhere last year until we acquired him.
He really stabilized our defense core.

For me, Matheson is the more expendable one as we already have 2 offensive Ds (Hutson & Dobson) in our top 4.

I kinda like the idea of a Guhle / Dobson first pairing !!
    Then Carrier with Hutson…

It does make more sense in my book … you pair an offensive D with a more defensive one and they get to play on their natural side.

sure, but if you are the Blues, this is most likely what you would be asking for.

Unless mtl 2026 first round pick is in play? I dont know.

I wouldn’t blame the Blues for trying as it’s part of the negotiation process … but I would say NO if I was HuGo.
The only way I would let Reinbacher go is if we got a good young centerman in return … but what do I know, I’m just a fefan like everyone else here.

If you are thinking about trading Reinbacher to get Kyrou, why not sign a guy like Ehlers or Boeser tomorrow and keep your assets?

Centermen and RHDs (high draft picks) are much more valuable than wingers which are a dime a dozen.

Habs have the assets. Makes sense. He’s actually good and not a roll of the dice like Dach/Newhook. Not sure why the Blues would want to move on? Berube is gone and Montgomery is a great coach for scoring.

According to D’Amico (in the video), the Blues have drafted a lot of wingers in the last few years and they need to make room for them in the lineup … their defense is also getting old so they are probably looking to improve in that area.

My guess is they also probably want to lower their salary load. JMO

Interesting discussion about the difficulty of getting a 2nd line center and the logic of trading (or not) for Jordan Kyrou from the Blues.

Leave it to Kent Hughes to make a big play on Draft day! Now that we’ve seen how the first round shook out, how is everyone feeling about the trade for Noah Dobson and what the Canadiens had to pay to get him?

Excellent trade … with David Savard’s retirement. Dobson definitively fills a hole we had on the right side of our defense.
I’m kind of bummed out to see Heineman go as I liked his potential but we had to give to receive … Dobson (25 yrs old RHD) is exactly what the doctor ordered.

As for the two 1st round picks (16 & 17), I’m happy HuGo decided to trade them away as it gives us immediate help.
We already have a ton of prospects in the system so a few more (who wouldn’t be ready for years) wouldn’t have helped us at this point.

It will be interesting to see what they decide do with Mailloux/Reinbacher (both RHDs) … more trades?
