The Leafs fan base is 70% clowns.

But the club has been really good for quite a while though. Until this season, of course. Some knew the fall would come losing Marner and Matthews needed Marner. So that’s losing one and a half top players.
If Matthews and Nylander had the character of the guys in your avatar we would have won a couple Cups. Those two greats (Gilmore and Clarke) would gladly trade a bloody nose for a team win. Matthews and Nylander would never make a sacrifice that could give them a scare. Trade those two selfish players
And as much as I loved Clark and Gilmour, they didn’t win a Cup in Toronto either. Gilmour won when the team was build completely solid. Clark never won anything despite his heart. Blah blah Kerry Fraser, they still lost Game 7 vs LA. And never got it together again after that either. Why? Because the Leafs don’t build good teams. They occasionally have some talented players but not enough of a good mixture to make it all work as one complete team. The problem is that to win a Cup you need a TEAM. You need the correct ingredients and the correct amount of those ingredients or it doesn’t work.
Matthews, Marner and Nylander were capable of winning a Cup if the Leafs had surrounded them with the correct players at the correct positions. They traded heart filled, grit players like Kadri. Let Hyman walk as a UFA. Made Rielly their anchor on D. These were massive managerial mistakes. They decided to bring in Tavares and it ruined the balance of the team. They had no D. They had no supporting cast. They had no success.
Matthews carries a purse and is a fashion boy. Nylander is a double flamingo softy. We win nothing with these two as the leaders.
Both these guys would never get their nose bloodied. And now Matthews has a chronic back injury compounding his play. Trade these two now.Matthews is a Capital “F”. Nylander likes to keep his face free of scares. Two guys who remind me of Bing and Tony.
Hard to have guys follow you into battle if you’re carrying a fancy purse. I’m thinking Matthews is an “F”.
What successful nhl team has a captain who arrives to games in his fanciest clothes and carrying a purse? NHL players, the tough ones that clubs win championships with, don’t carry purses. They don’t have a purse collection. Imo there’s something strange with how Matthews dressed up for the cameras. He’s just not a guy other players will follow into battle. We should have kept JT as captain.
Having a C stitched to his jersey wouldn’t have made Tavares any less of a useless pile of shit vs. Florida last year. Tavares is currently the de facto captain and the Leafs are absolutely horrible. It makes no difference.
If Matthews isn’t capable of being the captain, the team needs to be rebuilt regardless.

At least MM can go home now without needing private security to protect his wife and child. A mistake like that in TO and the crazies would be knocking on his door.

The Leafs simply couldn’t afford to keep both if they wanted to build a more balanced roster (despite JT taking an incredibly team friendly deal and performing well beyond the value for what he is being paid – suck it UG you meat stick) which pretty much everyone agreed they needed to do at this point (yes many said it much earlier and have proven to be right).Now if they have or have not accomplished building said more balanced roster so far is a whole different topic of discussion but the injuries have really impacted this team so far this year – a point that the chicken little types here just seem to ignore entirely.
The numbers so far tell us that the entire Willy is selfish, lazy, and a huge defensive liability and Marner is just an elite playmaker and such a better player than Willy narrative is providing to be complete and utter bullshit so far this regular season. Maybe Willy is in fact a sniper AND an elite playmaker!
And we all know which of those 2 players was effective in games 4-7 in playoffs series in past years and which one was not.

It will be pretty interesting to see how this looks come end of the season.
Who knows Marner may win a cup in Vegas but at this point it looks like he’d be a passenger and not leading them to it.

Nothing would please this Leaf fan more than to see a Toronto / Vegas cup final and watch Marner cry while Willy raises the cup lol.
Can you imagine the media circus if it was a Vegas / Leaf final?
Marner was our best player last year. Unlike Nylander and Matthews, MM played defensively responsible too.
Didn’t Marner leave because he has a young wife a baby who he believed were at risk in Toronto? So much so he hired private security too.
Can’t blame the guy putting the safety of his family first.
