The Price contract going out before season open is the more urgent part, right?
That way The Habs start banking cap space immediately.
Part 2: “acquire player(s) to improve the team” might become easier as the season moves on.

I am not sure if there will be a trade before the start of the season, using the cap space created by Price’s departure.
I think they want to see what they got at camp first, unless something great pops up before that… given the options suggested out there are not that ideal TBH.

Price for Crosby seems about right
Pretty sure the Price deal has been made, will be interesting to see if the Habs do anything with that cap space before the season starts.

The Habs are at the part of their rebuild where they need to make serious decisions about kids coming though the pipeline, we saw that last year with Harris and this year with Mailloux and Heinemmen. There are a significant amount of NHL players in their prospects (now mostly bottom 6 forwards and 5-6 D that will play in the NHL), some of those need to be moved or shown longer term commitment. They cannot block the pipeline for others coming up by not making decisions.
WiFi is an interesting case. I do not think anyone will offer up a 1st round pick for him, but that being said, until Reinbacker is ready and Struble shows continued growth, I do not think that is a trade you will make right now. However, if WiFi is part of a package deal that brings a real 2nd line center, whatever that package may look like, I think you make that deal.
He will block the trade and declare himself healthy to play
I could see a permanent LTIR player with a NTC block a trade for tax purposes.

Carey Price’s contract should be traded this upcoming week, with sources suggesting San Jose, Chicago or Pittsburgh as destinations. The Canadiens are trading Price’s contract to open themselves to the possibility of another trade. Timing on that is TBD
