I know there’s a lot to cover but i also think Kaisers step up and I’m going to say it playing defense like Keith without the puck, reading plays, killing them before they even happen and carrying Arty or Crevier and being a plus 6 doing it. Damn he’s going to get a nice raise of he keeps it up or scary part for the rest of the league
    gets even better.

I always thought Kaiser was a lot like Hammer. Both are good skaters, in fact I think Hammer’s skating was badly overlooked. Both with good quick reads, both play a high energy game. You don’t have to watch either too long to see they are gamers mentally and physically. ……. I do see some similarities with Keith but I see many more with Hammer.

Fun read, Frenchy. … You know KD tore this thing down to the studs, no, he replaced the studs too and dug up the foundation. Yr 1 was as bad an NHL roster as you’ll see and although Bedard, or any blue chippers, wasn’t there to be “infected” from what a culture of comedic negligence could do. ….. And up stepped as important a piece of the whole rebuild as there is, Mrazak.

Him, and him alone, was the reason Yr 1 wasn’t a laughingstock. . .. And in different, but as important, ways Knight is that guy today. Nowhere near the abuse Mrazak went thru on a daily basis this is a young goalie who has never been the #1. Kid is a cyborg and has been that way since I first saw him at The Program as a U-17. He’s the reason the club is in games, that the rebuild looks to be hummin, that coaches don’t have to devise ways to trap at times and can instead attack, that Artie can learn on the job, that all Dmen know they can jump in/up/keep pucks alive are all built on Knight being a freak behind it all.

As a young goalie starting out in 1970 every generation of goalies, and up until the advent of the white weirdo pads of the 2000’s, was told get up get up get up until you heard it in your sleep, until it became muscle memory… Growing up Knight didn’t have that cuz the equipment allows a goalie to move around without being on their skates or an anchor while down my guess is a Knight was barraged with “get to square get to square get to square” over and over and over like generations before were told over and over to get up get up.

Watch the kid, nothing else. You can see in his mind, get square get square. You can see it especially on a multi shot sequence where he makes a save and if a rebound happens he seamlessly slides/gets to square with the balance of a ballet dancer. The foundation of his game is to be/get square, like Carey Price. Robotically/maniacally they get to square without thought. .. Any goalie in any decade knows you need to be square but guys like Price and Knight are elite at it.

Still can’t believe Knight is a Hawk. Kid does much more than just stop pucks for the organIzation. His excellence allows the GM and coaches do things they would not be able to do, some of which I noted earlier. …. Yea man, Knight is a perfect fit.

Yea, these Monday look backs on the week are really nice for a fan. Gives a lotta the info some context……

We know Blashill loves the 11F 7D game day roster and it seems to be a fine idea. As you mention the TOI for Dmen is a little lopsided but it’s working and gives the coaches so many possibilities in game. Interesting to watch L4 operate with 1 different mate every shift at forward.

Dach seems to have slide outa the top 6 this week. Kid just can’t have long stretches where he’s not noticeable at all. Something to watch.

Blash is giving Reichel a pretty good look see and important minutes. Kid is an enigma and now it’s Blashill’s turn to beat his head against the wall.

Better week for Rinzel. Not expecting last yrs Rinzel but do expect he’ll get the attention of opposing coaches who are putting together a game plan. No sneaking up on anyone this yr but this was a good week for Rinzel.

A 3rd line that can shut top opponents down, take the tough Dzone draws and still win the possession battle is a dream for coaches. Looks like Donato and Mikkayhev will get poached from that line at times but I’m sure Blash and Crew understand this. But putting that line together is a helluv an ace in the hole.

Prospect Roman Kantserov is tied for 7th in KHL scoring, tied for 1st in goals, and leads all KHL players whose rights are owned by NHL teams.
#Blackhawks have another good one on the way.
He’s also been given an ‘A’ for Metallurg, at the age of 21.

    Have a great night

Frenchy, do you have access to TOI, if Kantserov is on special teams or what line he skates on? And, I forget how long the kid is tied to his club and allowed to leave Putin’s Russia?

Let’s see: Bedard headed towards a $12M aav “bridge deal,” Nazar and Rinzel are the real deal nice drafting KD, the young D as a whole is quicker and improved, whose place will Moore take in January? Reichel what little bit he played looked engaged, Lardis and Nestrisil are knocking on the door West and Boisvert to follow. I’m feeling like our long lost eternal optimist “Simple Jack.”

Hey rpete, never saw such a long post from you. It’s like a novel……. Anyway, what’s your point? That the arrow for your club is stiffly pointing straight up from top to bottom of the organIzation and the PTSD from the tank yrs makes you think you can’t have nice things?

Mikheyev with a monster 200′ game tonight. For all the roses people seem to throw at Dickinson’s feet, I think Mikheyev is the better player.

With all the young pups coming up including possibly Frondell next season as well, does Dickinson have a chance at coming back on a short deal since he’s a Blashill favorite thus far? I think the question is if Greene is ready to supplant Dickison at 3C at the end of the season. Mik def needs to be re-signed but think Foligno, Lafferty, and Reichel are elsewhere next season.

We kinda get a peek into how KD will handle forwards with expiring contracts by the way he’s handled the defense. With Murphy back this yr and being the only Dman with any long term service he went out and got Gryz as support/insurance for the rest of the crazy young D core who’s time generally speaking is now. .. I think as the young forward’s time is now starts pushing, like the young Dmen have, KD will keep his same measured approach with them too. ….. He’ll insulate and place the kids in positions to succeed as best he can and keeping valued vet forwards is a part of that. Like the defense.

Which vets he keeps/acquires is a whole other conversation and how the Greene’s, Slaggert’s, Moore’s, Nazar’s play this yr can/will affect who’s kept too. ….. Roster competition, baby. Sign me up.

Hey Chunk, don’t take this as the Hawks are gonna make the playoffs, but are we sure this team can’t be playing meaningful games at the TDL? And if so, will KD mess with what would be a very successful season to that point?

I may be wrong but i think the Ducks could use some good RDmen.

Looks like Senneke is playing well to.

KD was busy accumulating top 100 draft picks.

Yo Dots, get a good look see at McTavish. He won’t be hard to find!!…. Sure, the Duck roster has holes and a lotta yutes, but damn. Lot to like way out here in California..

Hawks are exceeding anyone’s expectations 6 games in but last game was the funkiest. Looking forward to the coaches and player’s response this game.

And, they stole 5th overall Gauthier who they stole from the Flyers. Where were you when this was going down, KD. Think Verbeek stole him for Drysdale. …….. 2 yrs ago he put up 65 in 41 at Boston College as a true sophomore and 44 in 82 with 20 goals as an NHL rookie last yr!!! ……. Yea, real interesting in ANA the next 15 yrs!…… And, IIRC McQueen fell to them last draft.

This is a game where the Hawks need Dickinson cuz Q has some big, physical, skilled young centerman in Carlsson and McTavish to deal with. Plus the Ducks have some vets with size who plan on using it with the Hawk young skill …. Nice to see Slaggert available. He should fit this system well.. Is Blashill gonna dress Reichel again? We know he’s intrigued by his physical skills/skating, who isn’t, and has trusted him enough to put him out in OT so we know Blashill is taking a look at Reichel with skilled mates. Interesting to watch Blah work this…Dach is falling down the lineup a bit each game. I called for him to be dropped out of the top 6 after a poor/unengaged 1st period 2-3 games back. If it’s in there I hope Blash can unlock Dach.

My favorite matchup this yr. Very interesting roster construction in ANA with Trouba and Gudas on the back end trying to maim along with a tricky guy like Zellweger. My Guy Krieder, a Terry and Kilhorn mixed in with blue chip top 3 picks in Carlsson, Sennecke and McTavish. A young Dostal is the #1 after waiting behind Gibson.. Very very interesting squad and now they have Q to put the puzzle together.

This has a chance to really entertain fans on both sides.

Glad they got a point but I didn’t want them to win this game. Starting in the 2nd this group played dumb undisciplined hockey and it started on that idiotic lazy PP that Bedard took a penalty during. Blashill takes as much blame for having Greene out for that PP making a less than stellar unit totally disjointed. Really, Greene on the PP?…… No, this club can’t think this was anywhere near accept6able enough to get two points.

1st period we saw last yrs Bedard’s weak/lazy defense, long shifts and losing hockey. He tried like hell to lose that OT all the way to taking a TWO minute shift… Yea yea, I know Rinzel and Nazar got caught out too but Bedard had chances to get off and didn’t. Loser hockey.

VAN was getting swarmed by the Hawk speed/tenacity in the 1st after playing last night and went down 2-0. But they came out like a vet club in the 2nd, buttoned up their structure nullifying that Hawk speed enough to tilt the thing their way. .. After that 1st they could have chalked it up to playing a back to back and traveling to play a hair on fire speedball club but they didn’t and get out with a smart 2 points.

Still can’t believe Knight is a Hawk. But as perfect and robotic as his movements generally look even he can get scrambly playing behind funk. Promise you he didn’t like his game. Laying on your belly or back in that many sequences tells him, and the viewer, he was off. …….

This is a game the Hawks can learn from. Hopefully that happens.

What’s the problem with Greene on the PP? He’s got some offense in his game, and who else would they put out there?

As far as OT goes, didn’t Van have the puck for most of the first half of it? Bedard in the first period was pretty much everything you want out of him. Battled for pucks (and won bunch) went through guys and not around them defensively, and generated some good chances.

Hey Chunk, During the 1st period I saw Bedard fly the zone, not stop to engage in a puck battle and instead reached in as he skated by more than twice. All in his Dzone and in all of those times VAN gained possession and moved the puck around burning Hawk legs to defend. Just like last yr. .. It’s losing hockey that he hasn’t played this yr…. But, thru 6 games I hoped his 2 way game would have developed this far in 2 yrs. Kid is different in most every way that’s why his reversion bothered me.

I was still in USHL stands when Greene was playing for Green Bay. Kid played 2 full yrs and a half. His last yr IMO his line was the best in the USHL and played a cyc le game as good as any line I’ve seen in the USHL. With a kid named Kunz and Hallum who is a flat out burner, went rd 3 to LVG and just went AHL after 2 yrs at U of MI. … Kid went 3rd overall in the Futures Draft (16 yr olds) so he was highly thought of from the start. …. Kid showed a smoothness and poise with + skating at very first viewing as a kid. Good not great hands with decent enough IQ but the kid always played with his head up. .. A kid born in Canada that took the USHL/NCAA route shows me a smart kid.

He played 2 and a half yrs USHL and 3 full yrs at powerhouse U of Boston and never averaged a pt per game. …. He’s a good hockey player IMO but his EP page and the eye doesn’t show an NHL PP guy.

I’m not sure winning a game is always Blashill’s priority. When he sent Bedard out AND to take the draw in the Hawk’s zone after a stoppage with less than a minute left up 1 v Utah(?) I was floored. With Dickenson and that 3rd line on the bench!!! I thought that would be the headline the next day, win, lose or draw. Well, it worked but man, winning ain’t a big concern in that sequence……. Pumping up/rewarding Bedard for his crazy improvement off the puck? 80,000 ft view?

Ok with Bedard but I thought Blashill didn’t take that PP seriously enough, and was screaming about before Bedard took the penalty on that same PP, and man, sure enough it bit him. And thought the Hawks were kinda hittin a lull and taking their foot of the pedal. Worst time for that PP to stink and you didn’t send Greene out in a position to succeed right there.

You know i got to enjoy the game live. Reichel is just so indecisive out there and Dickinson at times is a horrendous passer.

I really liked their compete but damn man i wish Bedard would just play his game vs the Canucks instead of trying to do everything. Really really really dumb penalty with 2 minutes left.

I must have seeing problems because that 3rd goal looked good to me, but you know Canadien Refs

That’s awesome, Dots. Who’d you go with and where did you sit?.. .. Got to be a bunch of observations seeing the group live and many for the first time, Dots.

So much for that great 1st period.

    Game just started over.

MH, this young group played 5 games and damn near 15 periods of sound enough hockey. I’m surprised we didn’t see a disjointed period like the 2nd a few games ago. …. Like I posted, they got away with a point and if they learned from this it’s a positive.
