Trading for Swayman’s huge contract is exactly what Jonesy said he doesn’t want when he started the Pres job, an expensive goalie. You can get a Cup winning goalie for a mid-tier deal; like Kuemper, Hill, or Thompson.
Also, my Devils friend said he wants to keep Allen because Markstrom sucked most of the year, so I’m not sure he’ll make it to FA. If he does, I’d prefer Allen, or I’d go Lyon, Samsonov, Husso, or trade for Primeau because the creases in MTL and Laval are overflowingEven though it’s becoming a pipedream, I think Carle is my top choice. I think the Flyers actually present one of the best opportunities for him to make the jump into the NHL. It serves as a great opportunity for a young coach with a young family to inherit a young team, but a close-knit and disciplined locker room. The Flyers could offer him 5 years and guarantee him at least 3, unless something cataclysmic happens. The travel is fantastic and the region is great for a young family, I think it’d be the ideal jump for him, better than most other teams (NYR, PIT the superstars are older than him, CHI supposedly lacks internal structure, ANA might be too young, etc).
But, with it increasingly likely he returns to college, I’m pretty cold on the other options. Shaw sounds good but will the guys play for him? Tocchet I’ve just not been sold on as a great coach. He won Cups as an assistant with great teams, and a Jack Adams with a great team. Fersch I’m not really sold on, and I’ve heard some things about him from guys who’ve done dev camps with that he may not be as driven and focused as we’d like. Quennville is a hard no IMO, too old, and too much of a PR distraction. I would have loved Sullivan but that’s gone.
Can we tamper with Brind’Amour?
Off the top of my head, I think Bylsma was the AHL coach and Berube was an asst but took over mid-season, which tends to light a fire. Over the course of the offseason, it’s harder, I imagine. Guys will get it in their heads that training camp will become easier and it’s downhill from there. TBH if it’s Shawsy, I hope he still does the rope test and tries to catch guys off guard.’

As bloodthirsty as I am for a Center or three, you go Schaefer here. There are a lot of Centers early in this draft, you can still grab 2-3 more with your other top 50 picks, including packaging to move up for a faller like Frondell, Desnoyers, or O’Brien.
Unfortunately the Flyers lack a 1D in addition to their black hole at C, so you can go BPA.
