ParticipantThe defensive structure and pinching is completely reworked and much better. To Grinder’s credit, if we had this coaching in place a few years ago some of our last chance teams might have done way better.
That’s without even getting into how much more rope Muse is giving to younger guys than Sullivan ever did, which is super important right now. I have no reason to think he was a bad hire at this juncture

ParticipantIf Brunickie gets the slow treatment but Kindel does not, do we try to big brain it as to why?
I think they’re probably on the same plan, it’s just that last night was Brunicke’s night to take a rest and we’ll see Kindel take a rest soon

ParticipantI like that it’s different. I’m not a fan of the diagonal Pittsburgh design we’ve used in the past and as alts recently because it feels like a copy of some Original 6 designs.
But that said I don’t think I actually like it. That’s fine though. I don’t need to be compelled to buy it. I prefer different over liking it aesthetically unless it’s actively awful. I like the igloo patch.

ParticipantWhat would be your guys thoughts on doing something like I believe Anaheim and … someone else did and limit kindel and brunicke some games to allow them rest and more time for bulking up? Or just play him till the wheels fall off?
If we are close to a wild card spot I’d say maybe go hard but I’d think at any bit of wear and tear I would rest them for a road trip or a few games. Help keep the penguins injury curse away from them.
If this were a contender, I’d do that (give them games off). I still can’t get past thinking this team is a bubble team at best and I want them to be patient for one more year. They should have been giving Sid/Geno and Letang random games off the last couple of years. A compressed schedule this year is going to be tough for this team.
Counter point: we’re the best team in the nhl and winning the cup.

ParticipantEnjoyable game from start to finish. Unlike the past few seasons, at no point was I waiting for the inevitable choke and loss. 81 More like that winning close to half and I think it would be a successful season.
Still not sold on the pick, but Kindel definitely has a high hockey IQ. If he puts in the work on his skating, we might have something there. 2nd line looked great, although they didn’t have to do much back checking.
And I almost feel bad for Rags fans…tonight they will experience their inaugural “I thought we played well, just have to get to our game” presser. Hopefully one of many lol.
Pens played one of their best games in years. Every phase was just better. Puck support was amazing. I don’t even remember the last time they played like that. The breakouts were tremendous. I don’t think they gave up one odd-man break the whole game….wow. Eff Sully. He got 5 years more than he should. Looks like the Rangers caught the Sully flu…..’cause they sucked. That teams window has slammed shut.
Somewhere Grinder is drinking Busch light and smiling ear to ear after beating Sullivan like that to open the season

ParticipantKindle at 3C is odd. Isn’t his future at wing?

ParticipantJarry on the bench for the opener. Muse seems to have some real balls when it comes to lineup decisions, something we’ve lacked for years.
Guess worth remembering that Sullivan had balls with lineup when he first got here too and lost them overtime. Muse will probably go the same way just like every other coach but for now it’s refreshing

ParticipantGood moves all around. Takes balls to burry a multi-million dollar contract but it’s absolutely the right call. Guys going down to the A will be back sooner rather than later besides Pickering who’s currently not making the most of his opportunities. Kindle and Brunicke have earned a reward and the only way to reward them is to keep them with the big club since they can’t go to the A. I think if Dumba can serviceably play on the left side, Brunicke spends the year here. Kindle isn’t physically mature yet so I’d be shocked if he stays up, but he sure looks excellent for where he should be in his development. For all the bitching and moaning about that pick, he looks like a good one

ParticipantGetting a bit disappointed on how long it’s taking this website to not become a janky mess. It’s a chore to use and it’s keeping me off the boards

ParticipantDef glad one of the goalies are gone. Blommer can backup, or possibly start when Jarry goes off the rails and murashov will start in the A. I guess we don’t have too many ppl ready to make the jump to the big leagues but all these random little signings seem to be more roadblocks.
Feels like the Russian is closer at this juncture but I expect both to get a chance sooner rather than later. I don’t think Jarry is long for this team one way or another. Either he preforms and gets traded or he flops and get buried down the depth chart. Dubas has already shown a willingness to send him down.

ParticipantA third for Ned. Incredible value

ParticipantBrazeau seems like a legitimate NHL caliber 4th liner at a massive 6’6 from the stats. Apparently has a knack for generating net front high danger chances which is a good trait for a 4th line winger that may not necessarily excel a sinking the difficult shots.

ParticipantIt’s funny… I wanted the team to get bigger for years just like grinder. However, I wanted those guys to also be good players lol. Jesse Marshall had some good things to say about a few of our draft picks. IMO, he’s one of the best Pens analysts. I have to admit, I was a bit bummed originally with our picks because none of the “insiders” mentioned any of the players we picked. Obviously, it’s such a crap shoot.
Yeah it seems like analysts that do real deep dives into prospects are much higher on our draft than the major talking heads whose job more revolves around surface level stuff about well known names.
As I’ve said all along, I know dick about NHL draft prospects. If I didn’t spend time reading about Martone, McQueen, OBrien, Bear, and Eklund before the draft and just read Marshall’s reviews blind without preconceived biases, I’d be pretty happy with our outcome.

ParticipantTimmins was worth a second? Man Buffalo stinks at this.
