ParticipantAttempt to what? Tank for the indefinite future? I’m obviously not sure what the Flyers will do this off season. But I think they need to get better and can if they use the main tools available to them, draft picks and cap space, wisely.
The Flyers need five or more difference makers to compete for the Cup . . . and even then . . . — FlyerFrank
Since the inception of the salary cap, when have the Flyers used it wisely?
Keep in mind, the Flyers have a long history of not learning from their mistakes.

ParticipantThe 4th for Tippett and one of the later 1sts is a no-brainer……why do you think they shouldnt — KINGKENZO
I would think so too, but then I’m not of the same mindset as Danny Briere… that is, I think we’ve seen what Tippett is going to be, whereas Danny still thinks he will improve and become the player he rewarded with an 8 year deal.

ParticipantGuess this tells us they’re banking on Luchanko being top 6 player when he’s on the NHL roster?

ParticipantI was thinking more along the lines Vanecek (if a 1/2 split) or better for a 1A/1B — Bill Meltzer
Of the rather underwhelming list of UFA goalies, Vanecek would be the one worth bringing to Philly.

ParticipantFor the first time in a long time, this seems like a reasonable extension by the Flyers.
If Foester progresses as expected, he can get paid in another year or two. If he doesn’t, the Flyers are only on the hook for two years.
With that said, there’s still a few bad contracts (in terms of length) that will ultimately hurt this team if and when they finally begin to put it all together.

ParticipantJust run it back with what you have. I want a shot at McKenna — Therealbigge
Not going to happen. The hiring of Rick Tocchet screams playoffs or bust. I would expect Briere to be active this offseason, for better or worse.

Participantcant blame tocchet for taking the bag. a lazy underwhelming hire. the GM also doing an underwhelming job.
at this point looking forward to see who they trade for, who they trade out, and free agency. this is the route they are going to take to get back into “contention” – yes its me 2050
With the hiring of Tocchet, I see it as a pretty strong signal this is the direction they’re taking, and will go so far as to say it’s the only way they can go at this point. Problem is, they need too many pieces to get to where they think Tocchet can/will take them.
As usual, they’ve painted themselves into a corner. But hey, it’s a ‘New Era of Orange,’ right?
