The Toronto Maple Leafs organization has drafted and developed a number of youngsters currently playing in the NHL (Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, Matthew Knies), but the club under former GM’s Kyle Dubas and Brad Treliving, and new GM John Chayka have had different ideas of what kind of prospects they wanted to populate the organization with.

As we’ve done on a yearly basis, we will be ranking the club’s top prospects over the upcoming weeks based on their progress in either the NCAA, CHL, Europe, ECHL, or AHL, and their potential to make the Leafs roster and make a contribution in the future.

#19 – Alexander Plesovskikh – LW (MHK Spartak Moskva – MHL, Moscow Spartak – KHL)
Plesovskikh was the middle of three Maple Leafs fifth-round picks (152nd overall) at the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas. As with most of Treliving’s additions to the organization, the Russian left winger is an above-average size (6’1”, 185 lb.) who played the two seasons leading into his draft year with Mamonty Yugry in the junior-level MHL, scoring eight goals in 33 games in 2023-24.
In 2024-25, Plesovskikh played primarily with the Moscow Spartak Jrs. and scored 38 points (15 goals, 23 assists) in 50 MHL games and eight goals in 21 playoff games, and earned a brief stint in the second-pro-level VHL. Last season, the 20-year-old finished second in goals (27) and third in points (51) for Moscow Spartak and again played briefly in the VHL and three games in the KHL. It is expected this upcoming season that the rugged winger (who had 84 penalty minutes) will step up in the VHL full time.
Elite Prospects Draft Guide describes the winger as someone with raw talent and tools, but who will need time to develop his skating and creativity. He is “more of a straight-line pursuer than a creator, and he mostly spent of the year taking advantage of the opposition’s mistakes, pouncing on loose pucks and intercepting them to drive the slot….but the belief is that those mistakes will be less plentiful as he plays in the professional ranks”.
