Game Four of the 2025 Stanley Cup Final in Sunrise, Florida, is on Thursday night. Meanwhile, the Calder Cup Final gets underway on Friday in Charlotte. Locally, Flyers general manager Danny Briere will hold his annual pre-Draft press conference next Tuesday. Noah Cates talked about his new contract yesterday in a video conference call with reporters. Here are your Flyers Quick Hits for June 12, 2025.
Cates: “I think I’m in a really good place”
Flyers center Noah Cates signed a four-year contract extension on June 3. Consequently, the 26-year-old forward decided to forego both restricted free agency and salary arbitration rights this summer. The new contract carries a $4 million average annual value (AAV).
On Wednesday, Cates met via conference call with Philadelphia area reporters. He discussed his reasoning for signing early rather than pursuing an offer sheet or filing for arbitration. According to Cates, it boiled down to two things. He’s happy in Philadelphia and didn’t want distractions looking over his offseason preparations for next year. Likewise, Cates realizes that he’ll have full unrestricted free agent rights in four years (at age 30). If he continues to play well, he could still get a lucrative new deal come 2029.
“I think it is a great term in terms of kind of where I will be at,” Cates said.
“Prime years for me to get to free agency. It’s knowing I’ll be in Philly for the next four years, having a bit of a runway of where we want to go and where we (as a team) want to be….or me to come in and prove what I can do, earn a nice contract, I never really expected that when I was in college. To make it to the NHL, to be a big part of that (Flyers rebuild), I’ve been through a lot but I know what I am and what I can bring to the Flyers.”
Flyers Draft Party in Atlantic City
The Flyers announced on Wednesday that the team will host a 2025 Draft party in Atlantic City on June 27 (6 to 10 p.m. EDT). The Draft party will be held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City on Friday, June 27. In addition to large-screen coverage of the Draft’s first round, the event will feature appearances by Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet, alumni Mark Recchi and Todd Fedoruk, and Flyers governor Dan Hilferty. Additionally, there will be live entertainment.
Tickets cost $6 per person. However, all proceeds go to benefit Flyers charities.
Flyers Daily: Travis Sanheim
Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim is Jason Myrtetus’ guest on the current edition of the Flyers Daily podcast. In an interview recorded on Exit Day before departing for the IIHF World Championship, Sanheim discusses the 2024-25 season and his off-season goals. Meanwhile, if the Norris Trophy balloting took place at midseason, Sanheim likely would finished in the top 10. Ultimately, he did not finish in the top 17.
