The Philadelphia Flyers appear to have dodged a bullet with Tyson Foerster’s offseason health issues. The player sustained an arm injury during the IIHF World Championship in Sweden and Denmark. The injury caused Foerster to miss one game during the tournament. Team Canada doctors believed the Injury was minor. Foerster returned one game later.
However, when the player returned home from the Worlds, he felt worse. Subsequent medical evaluations revealed that the Foerster sustained a serious elbow infection. The Flyers feared it was serious enough that the player might miss the start of the 2025-26 season with a nebulous return timetable.
Thankfully, he responded well to his treatment regimen. Reached by text today, Flyers general manager Daniel Briere passed along very encouraging news. “Everything looks good right now,” Briere wrote. “Should be ready for the season.”
Foerster’s new Flyers contract extension
The Flyers signed Foerster to a preemptive two-year contract extension on May 30. The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $3.75 million. The contract was signed early enough to prevent Foerster from becoming a restricted free agent this summer. There were credible rumors of at least one teams weighing a potential offer sheet for the 23-year-old winger if he remained unsigned into the free agency period. The Flyers made sure there was no such possibility.
Foerster coming off a strong 2024-25 campaign for the Flyers. In his second full NHL season, the Alliston, Ontario native posted 43 points (25 goals, 18 assists) while dressing in 81 of 82 games. Overcoming a slow start, the winger continued to grow in all aspects of the game. The club is counting heavily on continued progress from the player, hopefully into the 30-plus goal range in 2025-26 under new head coach Rick Tocchet.
Not completely out of the woods
Briere stopped short of saying Foerster is completely healed. From day one, his injury has been a touch-and-go situation. First, he underwent numerous tests to make sure the matter was properly diagnosed. Thereafter, it became a question of finding the best treatment course and tracking his response.
Thankfully, the player now seems to be well on his way to being ready to start the 2025-26 season on time. However, that precludes any major setbacks.

Thanks Bill
