Quick Hits: Kolosov, World Championships, Memorial Cup

The Florida Panthers are one win away from their third straight Eastern Conference championship. The Cats grabbed a 6-2 win on Saturday to take a three games to zero lead over the Carolina Hurricanes. In the West, the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars face off on Sunday in Game Three. Their series is tied at one win apiece. Elsewhere, the medal games at the 2025 IIHF World Championships are also on Sunday.

Here are your Philadelphia Flyes’ quick hits for May 25, 2025.

2025 World Championships: Medal Games

Sunday is the final day of competition at the 2025 IIHF World Championships in Herning, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden. In the bronze medal match (9:20 a.m. EDT), Sweden takes on Denmark. Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson is in goal for Tre Kronor.

In the gold medal game, Team USA opposes Switzerland. For the Americans, it’s a chance to win their first IIHF World Championship since 1933.

Memorial Cup

The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) champion London Knights skated to a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday over the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) titleist Moncton Wildcats. Sam O’Reilly netted regulation and overtime goals to win the game for London. Flyers prospect Denver Barkey assisted on a Kasper Halttunen power play goal. Fellow Flyers prospect Oliver Bonk had a helper on O’Reilly’s OT winner. Easton Cowan collected a pair of apples, including the primary assist on the game-winner.

In a losing cause, Etienne Morin and Dyllan Gill scored for Moncton. Top 2025 NHL Draft prospect Caleb Desnoyers was held off the score sheet on Saturday.

London is right back in action on Sunday. The Knights square off with the tournament host Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL).

No confirmation of Kolosov rumor

There are widespread rumors, which may or may not prove true, that Flyers goaltending prospect Aleksei Kolosov will jump the final season of his NHL Entry Level Deal and attempt to return to the KHL to play for Dinamo Minsk. However, this presently remains unconfimed speculation. Anthony San Filippo ran it past a Flyers’ source yesterday. Last night, I received the same reply from someone in Hockey Operations: The Kolosov camp has not informed the Flyers’ organization of this (at least not to this point).

The Kolosov speculation has been rampant when he did go to Lehigh Valley as backup and maybe how things were left off at the end of the NHL season.
