While the Stanley Cup and Calder Cup Finals await, the Canadian major junior hockey season is finished. On Monday night, the Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights captured the 2025 Memorial Cup championship. Consequently, two Flyers prospects capped off their junior careers in grand fashion.
Memorial Cup: Barkey’s big night
Flyers 2023 third-round pick Denver Barkey scored two goals on Monday as London defeated the Medicine Hat Tigers, 4-1. London won the third Memorial Cup championship in franchise history. Meanwhile, the Knights avenged last year’s heartbreaking loss to the Saginaw Spirit in the 2024 Memorial Cup Final.
Barkey recorded at least one point in every game of the 2025 tournament. He finished with seven points (two goals, five assists). Simultaneously, Flyers 2023 first-round selection Oliver Bonk posted a plus-seven stat and two assists.
Flyers Daily: Mondays with Meltzer (June 2, 2025)
In this week’s 35-minute Mondays with Meltzer edition of Flyers Daily, host Jason Myrtetus do an off-season version of the “Flyers: Fact or Fiction?” segment the show features from the time to time. Topics this week include whether the pendulum has swung heavily back to favoring big-framed players across the league.
Additionally, Jason and I look at the chances of the Flyers trying to move up or down in the 2025 Draft. Later, we talk about whether the offer sheet possibility is a legitimate possibility for (or against) Philly this year. Lastly, we give our thoughts on whether coaches get too much blame (or credit) for team performance,
Thanks Bill
I have to correct the statement “Barkey recorded at least one point in every game of the 2025 tournament. ” that he played in because he was hurt
Barkey did play in all five of London’s games (3 round robin, semifinal vs. Moncton, final vs Medicine Hat) and had at least one point in every game. He was hurt during the OHL playoffs but came back for the championship clinching game of the finals.
come on Bill, call it, where does Barkey end up in the lineup, not this coming season, but as he matures, we won’t hold you to it?
High energy third-line winger who can periodically slot into the top six.
how do you see the lid for Brink? From a trade perspective, how do other teams view Brink?
He’s tradeable. Scouts from other teams saw his overall improvement (particularly in when to hold/dish the puck and in puck battles). That said. He’s more the type of player you package in a deal than someone who, by himself, would land a big piece.
TY, seems the Flyers have more smallish forwards coming, where Brink could be a nice add to get what the Flyers need. I don’t think picks alone will do it, teams want NHL players, 41 points at 23 years old is solid, as you said, puck protection is a strength for Brink, you can make the case puck protection is a key element to being a good playoff performer.
