Ottawa Senators’ forward Fabian Zetterlund recently sat down in conversation with Hockey Hot Stove.
What was your favourite team growing up?
My home team where I first started in Sweden, Färjestad BK.
What was your favourite NHL team?
I watched the Washington Capitals when I was younger. I watched “Ovie” a lot, so that’s why.
Did you have a favourite player while growing up in Sweden?
I had a lot of them, depended how they played that week. It was a different one each time.
How about your coach, Daniel Alfredsson? He’s a legend in Sweden.
Yes, of course, he’s had a tremendous career and was a great player. It was cool to meet him too. But we talk the same language, so it’s not the same. But it was cool at first.
What was it like when you actually got to play against your favourite played growing up?
“Ovie” was my idol since I was a kid, now I’m playing against him. The first time I met him I was playing against him. But now it’s like cool everytime, because I’m more used to it.
What did you purchase after signing your first NHL contract?
I bought an apartment in my hometown, Karlstad.

What would you do if you weren’t playing hockey?
I’d be a soccer player for Manchester United.
When traveling are a reader, card player, video gamer?
Gamer, I play Block Blast on my phone.
What is your go-to pregame meal?
Pasta, pesto and chicken.
