Coach Todd McLellan left no stone unturned in practice, consequently the team found what they needed. Detroit found a surprising, albeit much needed scoring touch against Anaheim. The Red Wings score six times, thus breaking the lengthy and painful goal drought.
The Goal Scoring was impressive, however the team’s physical play was even more so. The game was filled with physical play, and the Red Wings found a way to win battles throughout. Accordingly, Detroit found a way to get into the crease and make life difficult for the goalie tonight.
Depth and Defensive scoring factors in
The Red Wings needed secondary scoring, accordingly several players stepped up. Moritz Seider had a goal and an assist, meanwhile Berggren had two assists. Rasmussen and ASP both scored goals, as well as factoring in defensively.
Rasmussen, in particular, quite possibly had his best game under McLellan’s tenure. The big centerman has been scratched multiple times, yet found a way to break through in this game. Detroit needs more scoring outside of the top six, therefore this game was a step in the right direction
Debrincat, Larkin and Raymond are linemates
Alex Debrincat had two goals and an assist, while Larkin had one of each. Lucas Raymond had two assists, thereby giving that trio seven combined points tonight. All three players showed their frustration, and the relief at game’s end was unmistakable.
Larkin has 21 points (10g, 11a) in 17 games, while Debrincat has 18 (6g, 12a). Lucas Raymond has 15 points in 15 games, thereby clipping at a point per game pace. The trio have played together for two straight games, and they may remain together going forward. It remains to be seen if the next game will see any line changes, as this top line has looked good together.
