Red Wings Earn Hard Fought Win In NYC

The sting of the Detroit Red Wings overtime loss to Buffalo was tough, however it didn’t last long.  The Red Wings played a tough, yet controlled game to beat the Rangers. The team played a full 60 minutes; consequently, they were rewarded with a win.

The victory was a grinding, albeit entertaining win for the Wings. Shots were 42-19 in Detroit’s favor; however, Jonathan Quick was spectacular. Lucas Raymond scored with just over three minutes left, thereby giving Detroit the 2-1 lead.

Lucas Raymond is a huge part of the core

Raymond scored just his fifth goal, yet his 15 assists give him 20 points in 17 games played. The fourth overall pick from 2020 has become a strong, if not critical part of this rebuild. Raymond is pushing hard to be a point-per-game player on this team.

Combined with Larkin and DeBrincat, Detroit has a fast and exciting top line right now. Moreover, the three bring a blend of speed and intensity. For now, that line will be crucial for the Red Wings in finding success in a grinding schedule.

The Red Wings are on track, so far

Detroit sits at 11-7-1 through the first 19 games this season. Detroit is second in the Atlantic; however, only six points separate seven teams. The Red Wings are trending in the right direction, but things can change very quickly.

To get 96 points, Detroit needs the equivalent of 6 wins every ten games. That’s a tough task, however, the team is on track so far. Consequently, the team needs at least an overtime point in game number 20. The condensed season is relentless, yet Detroit is showing the ability to find a way to earn points. The Red Wings play Seattle at home on Tuesday.

I like your stats on the 6 wins out of 10 games, it will be interesting to follow. They are going to have up and downs but it gives us a good idea where they are.
We should remember the east is so difficult, teams are so close, but if you manage to go to playoffs, you could probably do some interesting games and go forward a bit.
This last game shows us that Detroit has the talent, the coaches, it only needs mental toughness, will (and sometimes rest…) to win !

Thank you for coming by!!! I really loved the response. Quick was so good, the team could have been frustrated and quit. Instead they kept at it, really impressive. I’d still like to see a top 4 dman, but this response was a welcome one after the Buffalo game for sure

Just saw videos of the after game brawl. Part of me says “what a pity, what a stupid Quick doing that, a goalie stays there and does not go in like this” and a little part of me says “okay, he really wants to win badly, at 39, it is not respectful but understandable”.
Loved ASP coming in and help though he is so small, Ed jumping in without thinking he’s got two or three around him throwing punches, Larkin helping of course, Hamonic trying to take one on each arm, Seider stepping in.
Trying to stay a bit more neutral than some NY official sites, I would say Appleton should have stopped his shot, he had time for that but it was not the end of the world and not at all a reason for Quick to go in like this. This is nowhere for a goalie to be or to do, even if the game is over and you don’t mind staying focused or not.
The crowd seemed to love it, okay, and it is emotions indeed. But all this frustration… Quick was trying to contain his emotions and anger on the interview.
NHL mustn’t forget all this is because of poor calls for both teams : what lesson will they learn ?

Yeah, a poorly called game that almost robbed Detroit of a victory! The buzzer was still sounding when Apple released the puck to the net. Close……..but I understand the ire. Good to see Detroit kept fighting for the win.

That may have been the most important win of the year. Playing almost the entire game tied and not letting up. They score, questionable call ties it up a couple minutes later. As for the scrum, i love the Quick is so competitive. He gave an insane performance and was minutes away from at least an overtime point. Side note, the “look” of the game was really cool. Vintage looking sweaters and two original six teams going at it. Thanks for that take!
