Red Wings Get Good News on Patrick Kane

The Detroit Red Wings have gotten some rest, as well as some potentially great news. Patrick Kane is close to returning, although it’s not certain exactly when. The Wings could certainly use the boost, because the Atlantic Division is heating up.

Kane has been limited to just five games, however he scored three goals and 2 assists in that time. Marco Kasper, in particular, may be missing the future hall of fame winger. Kasper, Debrincat and Kane were Detroit’s top line last season, although they’ve yet to replicate that success this season

Detroit could have a powerful top six

Detroit’s shutout loss in Vegas was a good effort, however the team still needs to bounce back. Todd McLellan has already warned that excuses, however valid, are not going to be tolerated. The Red Wings need to have a strong return, and Kane’s presence could go a long way to help that.

Dylan Larkin finally has a consistent line, whereas the past several years have seen a constant rotation. The top six feels somewhat solidified, which is another important step forward for the Wings.  If the Kasper line can return to last season’s form, the entire team could benefit greatly moving forward.

Larkin’s line is producing at a surprising, albeit very welcome three points per game right now. Alex Debrincat continues to provide a point per game, however Kasper has only three points (all goals) on the season. Kasper has been stronger recently, and Kane’s return could be another boost for the young centerman.

The Atlantic Division is heating up

Detroit’s 9-5-0 start is impressive, however the standings are still incredibly tight. Montreal has 20 points, with only three regulation losses so far this year. Six points is all that separates the top team from the bottom, hence Detroit can’t afford to take any major slides right now.

Each game seems to have more significance right now, and the team continues to impress. McLellan has complimented the team’s resilience, which is a stark contrast to the past several seasons. The Red Wings seem to be able to reset more quickly this year, and the energy of the group has been positive. A strong game after a long trip is going to be crucial, and this group seems ready to step up to the plate.
