Red Wings: No Line is Safe Right Now

The Detroit Red Wings season started strong, however three straight losses have the team concerned. Coach Todd McLellan sees a frustrated team, consequently Nate Danielson was brought in for the last game.  Danielson had a good showing, yet the team is still searching for answers.

Every line combination is being reviewed, rather than hoping things can improve as they are. Marco Kasper has been moved to the wing, in addition a move for Alex Debrincat to the top line. Alongside Patrick Kane, the expectations for that line have been largely unment.

Will Red Wings give Amadeus Lombardi a look?

The roster options are limited, yet there is another player who could make an impact. Amadeus Lombardi currently has 12 points in 10 games, although just one goal so far. Lombardi has been a steady producer in the AHL, yet hasn’t been able to push through as a call up.

Internal options are all Detroit has right now, notwithstanding a surprise trade to shake things up. Lombardi can play center or wing, besides playing with pace and skill. Lombardi’s overtime goal capped off a comeback win for the Griffins, and Yzerman was rumored to be in attendance.

Is Yzerman testing the market?

For the past three games, the Red Wings have been held to just two goals. Detroit has managed 102 shots in that time, although mainly held to the perimeter. Opposing goalies have had a combined .980 sv%, further adding to the team’s frustrations.

Detroit faces Anaheim tonight, and already fell to the Ducks while on the road. If the losing streak extends to four games, frustrations will continue to mount. Yzerman has been very good at keeping things quiet, especially when it comes to trade rumors. It’s unknown if the team is shopping, however it seems more likely as the struggle continues.

Finally… the Wings showed some life tonight. This really was a must-win game. It’s amazing what happens when you actually get bodies in front of the other team’s goalie and take away his vision. Wings need to do that on a nightly basis… which they don’t. Good to see Bernard-Docker back out there. He is a big impromvement over Hamonic, who should just stay on the bench. You know you’re having a good night when Rasmussen actually scores (which is rare). The PK still looks timid and weak to me. They’re still collapsing back and letting the other team do what they want with the puck… they need to be much more aggressive !! It has gotten better overall though… unlike last year which was a complete dumpster fire for the PK. Would really like to see Danielson get that first goal or at least get some assists in his next game.

Yes, indeed, consistency is the main thing with this team ; talent is there but with so many games, you can understand why players can be tired (bodies and/or heads) but that’s how you go to playoffs, furthermore if your division is so so so so (did I say “so” ?) difficult !
At least, once you are in, that means you really deserve it and can do something interesting, and discover unusual heroes.
But as it is often said, one game after the other, we are so far away from that today !
