Red Wings: Patrick Kane Makes History

The Detroit Red Wings lost a second straight game, however the team managed to gain a single point. Alex Debrincat scored two goals just 47 seconds apart to help get the team into overtime. Patrick Kane added excitement to the game by earning his 1,375th career point. Thus, Kane is now the all time leading United States born scorer in NHL history.

The Washington Capitals looked dominant for much of the game, and the Red Wings struggled to gain momentum. Additionally, the Red Wings seem frustrated in the defensive zone with the loss of Simon Edvinsson. For the second straight game, the team looked lethargic to start, this time managing only three shots in the first period.

Still, a late surge and two quick goals helped Detroit grab a much needed point in the loss. Every team surrounding them in the standings managed to win two points last time. Consequently, only five points separate the top five teams in the Atlantic with less than 30 games left

Patrick Kane makes history, again

Patrick Kane thought he’d scored a goal to grab his 1,375th career point. However, the goal was waived off after a review showed that the play was offside. Still, Kane was able to achieve the milestone with an assist to Ben Chiarot’s sixth goal of the season. Accordingly, Kane continues to make his mark with a hall of fame career this season.

Detroit played a message from Hall of fame player Mike Modano, and the entire arena celebrated the milestone. At 37 years old, Kane continues to make an impact for the Red Wings. Kane sits sixth on the team in scoring, with 32 points in 40 games played. His impact on the team, however, goes well beyond the scoreboard. Players like Emmitt Finnie and Marco Kasper are witnessing, first hand, how a hall of fame player conducts themselves.

Three games left until the Olympic Break

For just the second time in two months, the Red Wings have lost back to back games. Accordingly, the team needs to find a way to get back into the win column. Detroit plays the Colorado Avalanche in back to back games, so that won’t be easy. However, this team has managed to surprise everyone with their resiliency this season.

There are just three more games until the Olympic break shuts down the NHL for three weeks. Detroit needs to find a way to earn points during this very difficult stretch. The Red Wings 70 points is their most through 55 games in over a decade. Still, with the divisional battle being so close, a playoff entrance is far from guaranteed at this point.
