The Detroit Red Wings had to dig deep to find a 4-3 win over the Seattle Kraken. Fortunately, the Wings pushed hard in the third period and grabbed the ‘W’. The team is in the midst of a six game road trip, and they need to find some success. However, they are off to a decent start thus far.
The trip started out with a shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Still, Detroit has at least one point in their past four games. Consequently, they are still hovering around the wild card race.
The Red Wings have to push hard after a recent four game losing streak derailed some momentum. Therefore, There is little room for error right now. Consequently, a bad week can cost as many as four games and that will be hard to recover from. However, the win against Seattle showed some promising signs for the road ahead.
Patrick Kane and James VanRiemsdyk
The Red Wings are watching history in the making for veteran winger Patrick Kane. Kane notched his 497th career goal by scoring the game winner against Seattle. Once again, Alex Debrincat assisted on the goal as the two continue a recent hot streak.
Similarly, James Van Riemsdyk has had a hot hand as of late. JVR has scored five goals in his past six games for Detroit. The resurgence couldn’t have come at a better time for the Red Wings. Therefore, expect to see JVR in more situations throughout the games ahead.
Both Kane and Van Riemsdyk had rough stretches early on this year. However, the two have recently shown the skillset Detroit has been hoping to see. With the need for more goal scoring across the roster, this has been a welcome sight.
Simon Edvinsson is turning Heads
Amongst the notable performances, Simon Edvinsson had two assists on the night. Edvinsson is starting to get more notice throughout the NHL this season. In his second full season, the 6’6” defenseman has seen increases in ice time. Edvinsson played over 25 minutes against Seattle.
Edvinsson, alongside Moritz Seider, may be the future top pairing for the Red Wings. Both players were selected sixth overall, and both have shown flashes of excellence. Seider has been Detroit’s iron man since arriving in the league. Seeing the two sharing the top line is an exciting development in an up and down season.
Detroit will now play three games in just four nights this week. Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton will all provide different challenges for the team. The Red Wings need to try and win two of the three if possible. However, that could be a tall task with games so close together.
