Red Wings soar in epic comeback over Blues

The Detroit Red Wings were in a four goal hole, however the team made an incredible comeback. The team scored six straight unanswered goals, thereby flipping the script of their recent losses. The win was an unlikely, albeit desperately needed turn around for the team.

The first Wings goal came at 7:52, nearly halfway through the game. Two goals in the final 1:26 of the second were scored, and those just 27 seconds apart. The third period saw big goals come in, although the saves may have been even bigger. John Gibson managed to hold the team in, and help to stop the losing streak from reaching three games.

The first period is really bad for Red Wings

The Red Wings are struggling with bad starts, accordingly the team was down two goals after the first period. The defense looks disjointed, additionally the forecheck struggles to gain any solid momentum. That should still concern the group, even though they found a way to come back this time.

John Gibson and Cam Talbot have to be strong, if not perfect in the opening frame right now. The team is still very young, accordingly they have yet to form a full identity on the ice. Nonetheless, there is certainly something special about this group, and the comeback was impressive.

Alex Debrincat scores, Edvinsson is redeemed

Alex Debrincat’s goal drought has been tough, even though he continues to create chances. Those chances finally paid off, thus getting “the cat” on the board. Debrincat had hit two pipes early on, however his luck changed with an unassisted goal in the third period. An exciting celebration followed, as it was the game tying goal and a huge boost for the team.

Simon Edvinsson has struggled lately, in addition to taking penalties he was getting benched in games. Edvinsson scored the game winning goal, and added an empty net for good measure. Edvinsson, and the rest of the team, have to learn the lessons while enjoying this win. The Blues will not be happy when they meet on Monday, and the Wings need to play a full 60 minutes if they hope to win the rematch.

    Nice recap Jeremy!

Certainly two different DRW teams (to some degree anyways) between the first & second half of the game. Happy to see them pull it out but much work is needed as they allow far too many open opponents free passes to the goalie (even in the third period) for premium scoring chances. Work in progress and I am sure they will get it figured out yet.

Edvinsson deserved to be benched in the prior game with taking 3 horrible penalties, blatant giveaways, and lack of overall compete level. He seems to suffer the same infliction that is Rasmussen as he will play great for short stretches then take the rest of the game off. Love his size and his skill-set is growing but hopefully he matures quickly and gives a complete effort most of the time.

I enjoyed the win and look forward to many more this year but hopefully they don’t need to rally from 4 down often, that is not a great recipe for success!

That was about the strangest turnaround i can remember! Definitely good to see Edvinsson grab the game winner, had a tough run. You’re absolutely right, going down four is NOT a recipe for success! Hoping they can start strong on this stretch of road games. Thanks for dropping by!
