Red Wings: Winning Streak Snapped by Oilers

The Detroit Red Wings have had a strong road trip, however their win streak is at an end.  The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Wings 4-1 on the back of a hat trick by Zach Hyman. Still, Detroit is 3-1-1 so far heading into the last game of this trip.

The Wings’ lone goal came from Simon Edvinsson, with a nice assist from Rookie Nate Danielson. Edvinsson now has 10 points on the season (4G, 6A) with three points in his past four games. Similarly, Danielson also has three points in his past four contests. The road trip has seen several players start to find their scoring touch.

However, the team will need to bounce back quickly to avoid a multi game winless streak. The team faces the Chicago Blackhawks next, and the last outing did not go well for Detroit. Chicago won that contest five to one, and the road ahead doesn’t get easier. Consequently, a bad couple of games could put the team in a bad spot.

The streaks have been ended

The Red Wings had enjoyed a three game win streak, as well as a six game points streak. Unfortunately, the loss in Edmonton saw both of those come to an end. Even with 31 games played, the standings are still incredibly close right now. Detroit’s road ahead could be problematic.

After Chicago, Detroit will face the New York Islanders for the third time. The Islanders have dominated the Red Wings in the first two contests. Detroit has been outscored 12-2 in those two contests, with one game being a 5-0 shutout. Yet, the Red Wings have been finding more help from the across the roster. Hopefully the team can find a win in at least one of the next two games.

The Redemption of Andrew Copp?

Among the success recently has been a resurgence of centerman Andrew Copp. Copp has found a home on a line with Patrick Kane and Alex Debrincat. The three have been outstanding, and Copp has six points in his past five games. Debrincat leads the team in points, and is second in goals scored with 16. Similarly, Patrick Kane has had a resurgence, with four points in his past five games.

Copp’s struggles are well documented, this his recent play is a breath of fresh air. The top six has lacked stability this season, however the line of Copp, Kane and Debrincat seems to be solid for now. Detroit will need all hands on deck over the next stretch, and the second line may well be leading the way.

The Red Wings will get a rare two day break between the Chicago and the Islanders. The team played three games in just four days in Western Canada. The condensed schedule is taking its toll, therefore it’s critical for players to rest when they can. The play nearly every other day until the Christmas break.
