Rasmus Andersson Traded To Vegas

Per Darren Dreger of TSN, Calgary Flames star defenceman Rasmus Andersson has been traded to the Vegas Golden Knights.  

According to Elliotte Friedman, the return includes defenceman Zach Whitecloud, a 2027 first round draft pick and a second round draft pick (that converts to a first if Vegas wins the Stanley Cup, and six-foot-three, 209-pound NCAA defenceman Abram Weibe. 50% of Andersson’s remaining salary and cap hit will be retained by Calgary for the remainder of his contract.

A left shot defenceman, Weibe, 22, has three goals and 11 assists for 14 points in 24 games with the University of North Dakota. The Mission, BC product was a seventh round draft selection in 2022.

Vegas’ leader in ice time this season at 882:04, Whitecloud, 29, has two more years left on a contract averaging $2,750,000 per season. The Brandon, Manitoba native has two goals and five assists for seven points in 47 games with the Golden Knights in 2025-26.

Whitecloud won a Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023, ranking fourth on the team in ice time at 411:27.

Forming Calgary’s top defensive pairing with Kevin Bahl, the 29-year-old defenceman has ten goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 47 games this season. The Malmo, Sweden product has recorded 57 goals and 203 assists for 260 points in 583 regular season games with the Flames. In 27 playoff games, the six-foot, 202-pound blue liner has tallied seven goals and seven assists for 14 points.  

Set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, the final season of Andersson’s six-year $27,300,000 contract carries an annual average value of $4,550,000. A right shot blue liner, Andersson re-unites with former defence partner Noah Hanifin. The two formed a formidable pairing in 2021-22 posting a combined +57 as Calgary’s top defensive unit.

    Underwhelming return compared to some of the other proposals out there but it seems he wanted to got on Vegas from the get go.

    Anyways, Ras was a trooper. Wish him the best.

    Yes, there is no Danielson or Lohrei. What do you think of the idea of retaining and flipping Whitecloud?

    That would be the smart Hockey move but I figure they will keep him around to insulate the younger D-core.

    I called it! To Vegas he went for Whitecloud, a 1st, and another pick or a prospect I said! But they got another pick AND a prospect. It is a great return for the Flames, despite Zach not having “star power”, but he is solid!
    Rasmus and Noah reunited!
    Will Vegas do OK with their goaltending though?
