Comfirmed: Cam York Agrees to Five-Year Extension

According to multiple reports, restricted free agent Flyers defenseman Cam York has agreed to a new five-year contract with the team. The deal reportedly carries a $5.1 million average annual value (AAV). Chris Maher had the story first locally. Elliotte Friedman broke the story first across North America. The Flyers officially confirmed the signing at 10:30 a.m. EDT. With York coming off a somewhat down season, the reported multi-year extension is a rather team-friendly deal.

Even with York re-signed, the Flyers have a need for another top-four caliber blueliner on the left side. Travis Sanheim plays right defense when paired with York, and also provides more offense when playing on his off side. The jury is still out on young defenseman Emil Andrae. The same applies to Egor Zamula. Nick Seeler is ideally a third-pair blueliner but has stepped up admirably when moved up in the rotation. Recent free agent signing Dennis Gilbert is a depth player. Meanwhile, 2023 first-round pick Oliver Bonk appears to need time in the American Hockey League. Prospect Hunter McDonald plays in the same basic mold as Seeler.

  1. Hope it doesn’t turn into a Farabee-like contract. I like the player, but am a bit nervous at 5 years.
