Sabres Fire Karmanos; Win Fifth In A Row

The Buffalo Sabres winning streak has reached five games.  After closing out a six-game road trip with victories over the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, and Seattle Kraken, the team added home wins against the Philadelphia Flyers and, most recently, on Saturday night against the visiting New York Islanders.

“We kind of know what’s working now,” said Captain Rasmus Dahlin. “It seems to be working so why change. Throughout the whole lineup. Everybody is doing their job, working really hard for each other. We play a mature game and we play to win.”

The streak keeps the Sabres in the postseason chase. They currently sit five points out of the final Eastern wild card position and five points out of the third slot in the Atlantic Division standings.

The transaction to the Jarmo Kekalainen era has begun for Buffalo.

The newly named general manager has announced that Sabres associate general manager and Rochester Americans general manager Jason Karmanos has been relieved of his duties with the club.

The move signals a change in direction for the team as Kekalainen’s evaluation of the entire operation continues.

The dismissal of Karmanos doesn’t come as a surprise as Kekalainen will look to put his stamp on the management staff.

Karmanos joined the organization in 2021. The Amerks have had some measure of postseason success during his tenure, but Kekalainen wants his own selection for the position.

According to Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period, the Sabres will name Marc Bergevin as the new associate general manager. The 60-year-old Bergevin was general manager of the Montreal Canadiens from 2012-2021. Currently, Bergevin serves as senior Advisor for the Los Angeles Kings.
