The Buffalo Sabres will have a new streaming home for the 2026-2027 National Hockey League season.
Sabres games will move from the Gotham Sports App to DAZN. The shift to DAZN comes as Madison Square Garden Networks and its streaming arm, the Gotham Sports Network, have struggled to remain financially viable. DAZN has entered into a partnership to become the exclusive direct-to-consumer streaming home of MSG Networks and the Yes Network during the 2026-27 NHL and NBA.
The move was announced last week on the Sabres website.
Pricing for the games and the date of the transaction from Gotham Sports to DAZN will be announced at a later date. Western New York cable TV, satellite, and Fubo TV customers will continue to receive Sabres games from MSG Networks. Out-of-market fans will continue to have access to Sabres games through ESPN Plus. The change comes at a time when the landscape of National Hockey League game broadcasts continues to change.
Earlier this off-season, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) announced that Hockey Night In Canada would not be returning to the public broadcaster this fall. The Saturday night staple has been synonymous with NHL television broadcasts in Canada and United States border cities for nearly 75 years. Canadian rights holder Sportsnet will now take control of the delivery of the Saturday night NHL contests.
The end of Hockey Night In Canada means the loss of an over-the-air NHL broadcast option and fans being forced to navigate high-priced streaming and cable TV packages to have access to games. The demise of once-profitable regional sports networks FanDuel Sports(formerly Bally Sports) and AT&T Sportsnet has resulted in the Florida Panthers and Vegas Golden Knights moving some local broadcasts to over-the-air television stations.
The Regional Sports network as a distribution model is all but on life support. In this time of change, NHL teams will continue to explore all options to bring game broadcasts to their fans.
