The Buffalo Sabres went with the best player available on night one of the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday evening. With the 9th pick overall, Buffalo selected 18 year old defenseman Radim Mrtka.
The 18-year-old native of Havlickuv Brod Czechia brings size and offensive ability to the organization’s defensive group. In 43 games with Seattle of the WHL last season, Mrtka scored 3 goals and added 32 assists.
Mrtka is excited about the prospect of playing with Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin in the future.
Buffalo has pretty amazing players,” said Mrtka. “For me, especially Dahlin. He’s one of the idols who I’m looking up (to) and trying to play like him. It’s going to be great to learn from him and play with him. I’m excited.”
