The Utah Mammoth suffered multiple injuries following their first preseason game against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday. The area of the lineup that is affected the most with injuries is up the middle. Top-line center Logan Cooley, along with centers Jack McBain and Barrett Hayton, are listed as day-to-day with undisclosed injuries.
Mammoth head coach Andre Tourigny emphasized caution on Monday, stating that he hopes their absences are brief. You can bet that fans and the media will be closely monitoring the situation. The health of these players will be vital for the Mammoth to have any early-season success. Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong has built this team into one that finally resembles a playoff contender. It would be a shame if they suffered a slow start to the season due to injuries.
Another player on the injury list is forward Alex Kerfoot. He is listed as week-to-week and will likely miss the Mammoth’s first game of the 2025-26 regular season on October 9th, against the Colorado Avalanche. Kerfoot only missed one game over the past four seasons, but with his current lower-body injury, he could miss a few more. The usually durable forward is expected to solidify the Mammoth’s bottom six.
Utah Mammoth Injury Update on Cooley, McBain, and Hayton
Cooley, who suffered a hit from behind by Avalanche winger Zakhar Bardakov, had to leave the ice immediately. He is the Mammoth’s top-line center. Last season, Cooley registered 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points in 75 games. Tourigny expressed great displeasure at the hit but remains hopeful that Cooley’s absence will be short-lived.
Barrett Hayton and Jack McBain, who line-up down the middle in the center spots behind Cooley, are listed as day-to-day with minor injuries. Both players set career-highs in scoring. Hayton registered 20 goals and 26 assists for 46 points in 82 games, and McBain registered 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 82 games. The Mammoth will be monitoring them closely. It is not ideal to be missing all three top-line centers, even if it’s only temporarily.
