As the Montreal Canadiens continue to progress through the rebuild and improve as a hockey team, picking in the top-5 of the NHL Draft will become increasingly unlikely. After trading two picks in the first round of the 2025 Draft, Montreal selected their first player early in the second round with the 34th overall pick.
But Montreal continues to build and develop their prospect pipeline, widely-considered one of the best in the NHL. Players selected in the past two NHL Drafts may one day become part of a core of players to contend for a championship year after year.
In this week’s episode of the Canadiens Connections podcast, we review the performances of four Habs prospects, L.J. Mooney, Owen Protz, Aatos Koivu and Michael Hage, participating at the World Junior Summer Showcase in Minneapolis, MN. We also go beyond the statistics to give you a glimpse into the personalities of the prospects who may challenge to be future Canadiens.
