Dylan Larkin is passionate about team USA
The Detroit Red Wings have a strong connection to international play over the past several decades. Superstars like Sergei Fedorov would don their country’s uniforms and at times go head to head with their NHL teammates on the world’s stage. For Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, the opportunity is one he takes seriously.
Last year, Larkin called on other US born players to step up and be a part of Team USA. Larkin is passionate about seeing the red white and blue take a place on the podium. Team USA has invited Larkin and teammate Patrick Kane to their orientation camp, and both will have an opportunity to secure a place on the Olympic squad.
This year could be career defining for Dylan Larkin
Larkin is taking on multiple huge undertakings in the upcoming season. He desperately wants to lead Detroit to the post season and avoid a 10 year drought. Larkin also wants to be on the ice in Milan, Italy representing the USA in early 2026. Both of those efforts could shape not only the coming year, but also the rest of Larkin’s NHL career.
Last season’s challenge to General Manager Steve Yzerman has gone largely unmet at this point. The Detroit Red Wings top centerman and superstar wing in the making Lucas Raymond still don’t have a steady linemate. The battle to rise up in an increasingly difficult Atlantic Division has yet to see reinforcements brought in to make a significant impact. At some point, frustrations may lead to a massive change in the Detroit organization. While it seems impossible, Dylan Larkin and Steve Yzerman could come to a point where one of the two needs a change of scenery.
The Olympic view of team excellence
For players like Dylan Larkin, a spot on team USA gives a glimpse of “what could be”. Larkin is the go to player in Detroit, but on team USA he is surrounded by all star talent. He has the ability to share the ice with Matthew and Brady Tkachukand Austin Matthews. That alone has to have his wheels turning about his own NHL path. Having that caliber of support can drive home even further what Detroit is failing to provide for the captain, and the team at large.
Last year’s loss to team Canada at the Four Nations saw a massive outpouring from hockey fans. The stage is set for intense drama as the two counties hope to meet again to battle for Gold at the upcoming Olympic Games. The path for Larkin to be on the ice in Milan, Italy won’t be easy, but you can be certain he will give everything he has to be there.
