One Final Bloom in Pittsburgh

If you’re looking for something cool to look forward to this preseason, I have just the thing to share with you today. Marc-Andre Fleury is going to play one more game for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yes, you read that right.

The Flower is going to practice on September 26th with the team and then play in the September 27th game against Columbus. He has signed a professional tryout to make this happen.

I have to say this is really cool and a perfect way for Fleury to get better closure in Pittsburgh. When he departed after the 2017 Stanley Cup run, it was with animosity and hard feelings. Even with hindsight, I can’t fault the Penguins for going the direction they went in at the time. Matt Murray was the starter on back-to-back title runs and was way younger. Fleury, of course, went on to the Stanley Cup Final and won his only career Vezina with the Golden Knights.

This provides an opportunity to put all that in the rear-view mirror and allow the fans of Pittsburgh to not only root for him again, but to do so in the black and gold. I’m really happy that both Marc and the team have come together to make this happen. It is a nice short-term distraction from the reality that the Penguins are facing in 2025-26.

Some players sign a one-day contract in a polo shirt and take a picture. Flower does it in a robe, blinging out, and actually gets to play a game.

Anyone see the prospects game? Saw one highlight of a nice drive by broz leading to a goal by koivunen.

Yeah I watched most of the game. Brunickie just looks so damn good. Pickering looked great too. Forwards seemed really fast and was able to keep them hemmed in for long stretches. There were a few total lapses which led to a 2-0 though.

Haase has a pretty good breakdown on the prospect game. Said Pickering and Harding look really good. Add Brunicke to that list and it’s a pretty encouraging group of good D prospects.
