yes its me 2050
Participant– Seems the peeps who cover the flyers are trying to pump the jett up despite him not doing much. Do the right thing send him back to juniors. He isn’t ready for the nhl and that is ok.
– Juulson is not good. Waive him. Adds no value and bad signing.
– Is there another level to zamula’s game? Doesn’t look like it. Hasn’t taken that next step.
– Nesbitt looks solid so far.
– Piss poor offensive effort. Some of the same issues.
– is Samu officially a bust yet? that 21 draft looking putrid. 22 also not too hot. -

ParticipantBill, I haven’t seen anything about how Rizzo has done in camp. Any observations? Thanks.

ParticipantThe vets were outplayed pretty thoroughly in MTL and last night. Make of that what you will.
Grans is not a solution on the RD. They’ll go with the 6-7 best Dmen they’ve got but it’s going to be dicey for the time Risto remains out. Ginning looks decent out there, +1 in two games, didn’t see any major gaffes. Keep an eye on him.
Abols pretty well has a spot on the roster. An incredibly pleasant and necessary surprise.
Nesbitt did have a bad game last night but NBD. He was always going back to Windsor. He’s going to be a very good NHL regular in 2-3 years.
Still have 4 games to read and react to. Jobs still open up front and on D. I can absolutely see the Flyers going with the 23 man roster.

ParticipantHowever, Tippett’s linemates didn’t do much to stand out. Luchanko’s speed flashed a few times and he played solid defensively and on the penalty kill. He made a nice chip pass to get Tippett a scoring chance. It’s important to keep in mind Luchanko’s recovery from his groin injury. But if you were hoping to see consistent offensive upside, it wasn’t there to be found.
Doesn’t sound like he really pumped him up but he did excuse Jett’s poor play with a 3 month old groin injury. It’s fair to question how much Jett improved over the last year and doesn’t sound like a player “forcing” the flyers to keep him up. Other articles make a big deal out of Jett having already made the team out of camp last year but him making the last year was a joke made by poor talent evaluators.
It’s to bad he didn’t choose the college path this year, like Martone. It might’ve been an interesting middle ground for those who think he’s too good for juniors.
If you go back to Briere’s comments last year when he “made the team” –
https://www.nhl.com/flyers/news/briere-we-re-going-to-evaluate-all-season
“Going into training camp, I never thought he had much of a chance [to make the team], more of an outside chance, small outside chance, to be honest. But he has blown us away from Day 1. The speed is one thing that really jumped out, top-end NHL speed already at such a young age; that’s impressive,” Briere said. “Then you start watching him play and it’s just all the little details in his game, the way he supports everybody, the way he makes players around him better was very impressive.”
You think the guy who said this last year, about the youngest player in flyers history to make the team (a feather in DB’s cap), is going to say he was wrong? Even though the player was so bad that he spent the majority of his time in the press box until they could sneak him back to juniors as quietly as possible.
Unless Luchanko loses a limb or develops a Ryan Ellis core body injury I don’t think they will send him back regardless of how he looks. The Flyers need centers and they’ve already spent considerable PR time hyping him up last year. regardless of how he looks.

Not bill, but this site still has some bugs. Sometimes if you have an extra quote it won’t post, etc. It can be very particular on formatting. This time it was the italics around Briere’s comments. I removed them and voila.

So what’s the problem? Where’s the giant issue? IF Jett makes the team it’s as a 4th liner. How much scoring do you expect from your 4th line? I think the Flyers are also looking to carry 14 forwards. There are realistically only 15 guys in the mix.
HATHAWAY COUTURIER KONECNY DVORAK ZEGRAS MICHKOV FOERSTER CATES TIPPETT-Absolute locks
BRINK DESLAURIERS ABOLS-Highly probable
GREBENKIN BUMP LUCHANKO-66% chance for each of these three if they carry 14 Fs. -

for pure entertainment purposes hope the jett is the 4th line center. then can watch him develop his offensive chops. maybe the next ryan poehlig
there is zero need to carry 14/15 forwards.

This is what so many aren’t getting. Jett’s best interest in terms of development is not the priority. The priority is the team. Who are the best players available to fill the roster spots? They aren’t going to put him in a position where he literally crashes and burns. Abols surprise step up has complicated things in a good way. They can’t carry 15 forwards, but 14 is not unreasonable.
The D is the problem anyway, even after Risto returns. We’ll see about the goaltending. Was surprised they only gave Vladar one period last night after working Kolosov in 40 minutes in two games already.

I think i see the root of our difference of opinion. Being that the team is “rebuilding” my point of view is the team should do what is best for the players in the long term so that down the road they can help the team to the best of their abilities. It sounds like your view is decidedly short term, as in the current year and not beyond. Jett may indeed be a warm body to fill a bottom lower roster spot in this case but in the longer view i still think that isn’t a wise decision by the team if that’s the only reason they keep him.
I would also remind you that they kept him last year and he crashed and burned. Doesn’t mean they won’t do it again.

You also aren’t factoring in they don’t like the situation in Guelph. Not sure how heavily they weigh that. If Jett was going back to London, this would be an entirely different situation.
