The Utah Mammoth are keeping one of their biggest young stars long-term. The team announced on Wednesday morning that Logan Cooley has signed an eight-year, $80 million contract extension. The deal, which begins next season, carries a $10 million AAV and will keep Cooley under contract through the 2033-34 season.
Logan Cooley is 21 years old. He was selected by the Arizona Coyotes third overall in the 2022 NHL Draft before the team’s relocation to Utah. After registering 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points last season, Cooley is off to a good start this season. Through the first 11 games, he has eight goals and four assists for 12 points.
Here is what Cooley had to say about the extension, according to the Associated Press: “We have an opportunity to do something special here thanks to the incredible people in the organization,” said Cooley, “This is an awesome day for me and my family, and I am proud to commit to the state of Utah and to the Mammoth.” The signing comes after months of negotiations. This is a good day for Mammoth fans.
Utah Thrilled to Re-Sign Cooley
An important thing to point out is the term. Utah was also able to sign Cooley to the maximum term of eight years. This is significant as the maximum term next season will drop to seven seasons. Wednesday’s signing is great for the team and Cooley. In a statement released by the team, Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong praised the 21-year-old. “We are thrilled to sign Logan and have him with us in Utah for the next eight years,” said Bill Armstrong. “Logan is not only an incredible player but an even better person, and we look forward to watching him grow.”
Cooley is part of an incredible core of young players that will have a major impact on the future of the Mammoth franchise. This re-signing is just the beginning of what could be a huge season for Cooley. He will likely get to play for Team USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics in February. He and teammate Clayton Keller were at Team USA orientation camp back in August. To top it off, the Mammoth could make it to the NHL playoffs.
