ParticipantAfter a 2-4-2 start, TB has gone 10-2. They’re still winning even with Hedman and McDonough on IR. They have a very good, deep team and will be a challenge. The Flyers have been scoring more the last couple games with the goals spread out among a few guys who needed them. That’s generally a nice sign. Second of six games against tougher conference rivals. They have 2 points so far and could probably do well adding another 5-6 in the remaining 5 games.

ParticipantPlaying against a depleted lineup especially on defense and what exactly was the flyers game plan? Sit back and relax? Why not attack that D? Tocchet is a boring and unimaginative coach.
MM still with the least minutes of top 9 forwards.
Wonder if they give ND a year contract ext.
Will be interesting to see Andrase usage next game.

ParticipantThe second goal, they really broke down. They were playing a banged up team but let one line beat them, kinda like Dallas. A bad slide on the 2nd goal from Andrae along with Drysdale’s desperate dive. I do not like the slide. If it misses, and often does, your guy is wide open and it’s an easy play at the net. Didn’t matter, the Flyers didn’t score. They didn’t get many shots and I would say they were all pretty easy for Vasilevskiy. A lot of breadbasket stuff he could control. Need better shots there. I saw a few passes when the shot was there, three or four. It’s time, place, score. You’re down well into the game and getting stuffed. When you get a shot, take it. The perfect plays don’t happen when the other team is D-ing up like TB did. Konecny was a guy I saw pass in a shoot situation, Cates too. Tippett hit a post, that was the closest they got to a goal.

ParticipantIt is amazing to watch that Torts’ team was about transition offense and Tocchet is the complete opposite. Not sure during the hiring process why the regime thought it was a good idea to do a complete 180 on style of play. They could not break down a blueline missing their top 3 Dmen. If they make the playoffs, it will only happen if Vladar plays 50 games and has a top 10 save %. Tocchet does not have the offensive structure to win any other way. This has proven to be true in all of Tocchet’s previous jobs. Got to give the man credit, he got paid by the Flyers and he has shown no ability to adjust his offensive structure. Play safe and only shoot with traffic in front of the net. Leads to a lot of nights just like what has happened in Tampa.

from just a coaching standpoint, is tocchet worse than Torst?

I believe Torts was a better HC for how the team is currently constructed. They are not big upfront, so trying to come thru the neutral zone with limited speed and try to win board battles to then get forwards in front of the net to deflect shots is not this team. Torts downfall was his loyalty to Rocky running the PP. He just would not move Rocky off that responsibility. Tocchet is married to his offensive philosophy, no matter the talent level. He salivates having a winger like Tippett. A forward who can skate fast with size and hopefully dig out pucks in the corner. Does not matter if Tippett is not good at that job, Tocchet believes he will be able to mold him into that player.

Participantfunny about rockey. I dont think torts is dumb by any means. Loyalty only goes so far and would really love to know why he kept rocky onboard. one of the great mysteries of life.
Also shows how weak and spinless danny boy is/was for not taking control and getting rid of him. Guess you can throw “jonesy” in their as well.
tocchet no doubt loves tippet. You can see by the usage.
