Going into the last half of an essential six game stretch against conference rivals. They won two of the first three. If they can do the same in the last three, it will be very encouraging. They need to keep making shots. Wednesday, they got one more D goal, Foerster stayed hot with the game winner and Couturier and Michkov got goals. Definitely need something from Zegras-Dvorak-Tippett today. They’re due. If you’re going to get your goals by committee, all the committee members need to chip in regularly. Islanders aren’t a super strong home team.

Phenomenal goaltending is saving their asses, if we’re being honest with ourselves.

Vladar is giving them top tier goaltending, Ersson is not and still has won more than he’s lost. It’s Black Friday and only three teams in the East have a better win pct than the Flyers.

And when they ignore the facts, some people think this is a bad team and Tocchet is a bad coach. They’re on pace for 100 points. Last year they had 76. The negativity has reached peak comedy levels.

Gotta admit, that was a great pass by DeAngelo to Couturier. 😂

They aren’t a “bad” team, but they aren’t a talented team either. As mentioned, goaltending is a large part of their success to date and in my opinion they are well coached, which can take a less than talented team a lot farther than some people are willing to admit. If you’ve got a team that’s less talented than most, you can have a lot of success by being stingy defensively with your systems play. It’s not fun hockey to watch, but it is a recipe for success in the win column.

What teams are “talented” then? I would say TB and DAL are both more talented than the Flyers but a lot of that talent was out of the lineup and they smoked the Flyers anyway. They did it by playing good team hockey and their remaining talent beat the Flyers. You need both to be an elite team and hopefully win the Cup but there’s maybe a half dozen of those in a 32 team league. A talented and sound team clearly would have beaten the Flyers yesterday. The Islanders? They don’t have much beyond Schaefer, who is clearly a wizard, and Horvat. Heinemann looks good to me as a shotmaker. The first Flyers goal yesterday was hilarious, they bad passed their way up ice and Foerster made a shot. It was one of the ugliest goals you’ll ever see but it counted. The Islanders are the mid-tier bulk of the league.

love “pace”. get back to me when they actually hit 100 points

no negativity, reality. reality is they are going nowhere.
