The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Tuesday that they have recalled forward Dominic Toninato from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
Toninato, 31, signed with Chicago as a free agent on July 1, 2025. He is listed as a center/winger (C/W) and can play both positions. This season in Rockford, he has recorded 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists) in 24 games. His 17 points rank third on the IceHogs, and he leads the team with two game-winning goals.
Originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2012 (5th round, 126th overall), Toninato developed in the USHL with Fargo and later spent four seasons at the University of Minnesota–Duluth, where he served as captain in his senior year. After college, he signed with the Colorado Avalanche and went on to play in the NHL with Colorado, Florida, Winnipeg, and Chicago.
Over his NHL career, Toninato has appeared in 189 regular-season games, producing 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points.
In the last three seasons, he appeared in only 20 NHL games, spending most of his time in the AHL as a veteran depth forward.
Toninato gives the Blackhawks an experienced, responsible player who can step into the lineup at either center or wing.
Chicago’s next game is Wednesday, Dec. 10, when the Blackhawks host the New York Rangers at the United Center at 6:30 p.m. CT.
