Here’s a look back at this past weekend’s games in the PWHL.
Sat. Dec. 6 – Goldeneyes 4, Sirens 0
Vancouver goalie Emerance Maschmeyer was the star of the game, making 28 saves to earn the first shutout in Goldeneyes’ history. It was also the first-ever regulation win for the newest Canadian expansion team.
Abby Boreen led the Goldeneyes’ offense with a pair of goals. Ashton Bell and Jenn Gardiner also scored, finding the net in a 63-second span to set a club record for fastest two goals.
“Having the whole city behind you, it’s super fun to be out there and have them cheering us on,” Boreen told reporters. “Today we knew we had to turn it around and we did just that. It’s great to be home. We’re comfortable. And scoring first is always a good step forward.”
A crowd of 9,502 fans attended the game at Pacific Coliseum.
Sun. Dec. 7 – Victoire 3, Sceptres 1
Former Toronto forward Hayley Scamurra had the game-winner in Montreal’s win at Place Bell to help snap her team’s two-game losing streak. Kati Tabin and Laura Stacey also scored for the Victoire, and Ann-Renee Desbiens made 21 saves in goal. Montreal’s penalty kill came up huge, particularly in the third period when the Victoire were assessed three minors in a span of 90 seconds, resulting in a prolonged 5-on-3 advantage for the Sceptres.
“Our special teams were really good,” Montreal coach Kori Cheverie said. “The three-on-five was great, and then our power play gave us momentum. I didn’t think we gave them too much. So overall I’m happy.”
Emma Gentry, Toronto’s initial second round pick at the 2025 Draft, netted her first career PWHL goal.
Sun. Dec. 7 – Fleet 4, Frost 1
The Boston Fleet vaulted to a perfect 4-0-0-0 record defeating Minnesota – the two-time defending Walter Cup champions – to remain the only unbeaten PWHL team this season. Boston had goals from Shay Mahoney, Megan Keller, Abby Newhook and Theresa Schafzahl. Newhook extended her goal scoring streak to three games; her season total of three goals leading all PWHL rookies. Aerin Frankel backstopped the squad with 26 saves in the win.
Minnesota’s only goal came from Klara Hymlarova.
“They started off obviously at 3-0, coming in here we’re sticking to our game plan because it’s the one thing we can control,” said Brianna Decker, Frost assistant coach and 2025 Hockey Hall of Fame player inductee. “We started off hot and I think we just want to be better on our power play and scoring on those chances. And on the back side of that, the PK (penalty kill) gets cleaned up as well because obviously we have them in the next game.”
1980 Miracle On Ice hero Mike Eruzione, a Massachusetts native and Boston University alumnus, was on hand for the opening faceoff.
