History Made: Kane and Toews Face Off

The Detroit Red Wings are riding high after their overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, there’s another part to the story as the Winnipeg Jets come to town. For the first time in the NHL, Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews will be on opposite sides of the ice. This unlikely battle brings an entirely different energy in the last game of 2025.

Accordingly, fans and media are on high alert to see the two franchise players reunite. Kane is on the verge of history, just two goals shy of 500 scored in his career.  Consequently, friends and family have been coming to town in case #88 has a multi goal game to end the year. Toews is a close friend, however the competitive juices will be flowing in this one. “Captain Serious” will not likely want to see that milestone crossed on his watch.

Kane and Toews had to overcome huge obstacles

Tonight’s appearance by Kane and Toews is an unlikely one for many reasons. In particular, it seemed as though Toews would spend his entire career with the Chicago Blackhawks. However, health issues sent Toews on a journey that ended in Winnipeg. His return to the ice reinforces his passion for the game and his incredible character.

Patrick Kane’s return last season was an incredible feat. Kane had to rehabilitate after a hip resurfacing surgery that can mean the end of an athlete’s career. However, Kane’s work ethic and inner drive allowed him to return to action. Both players being here is an incredible testament to their commitment and love for this game.

Detroit and Winnipeg are in very different places

The Red Wings sit atop the Atlantic Division after an impressive first half of the year. Conversely, Winnipeg sits last in the league with just 34 points. Both teams are playing for pride tonight, however for very different reasons. Winnipeg expects to be in the playoffs again. Detroit, on the other hand, wants to return after a nine year absence.

The Red Wings have to be ready at puck drop to play a physical and tight checking game. This game will have the attention of the hockey world, and the Red Wings need to make a statement.  The first half of the season has been a welcome surprise for Red Wings fans. However, the final note of 2025 could be a sour one if the team can’t find a way to get a win.

The Detroit Red Wings and Winnipeg Jets game is an historical footnote: The first time that longtime teammates Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews will play on different sides.

      Happy new year everyone !

How is it to start 2026 with a nice win ? Not a lot believed in the wings to have such a start. Now, as Todd said, there’s no room to stop playing, and this season is as crazy as any season before (probably more) if you look at the standings.
No team is really playing better, being a clear favorite all season long. If I’m not wrong, the last years, there were two-three teams being much better.
Now, it’s time to see what the 2nd part will do but I’m a bit worried about the after olympics (Larkin, Kane etc will be tired and lose motivation for the rest of the season, and we cannot afford that !)

      Take care.

First, wishing y’all a VERY Happy New year!

Second, PIT took us to the house. We were unprepared, slow to react – just didn’t play worth a dang. Saw the line changes the Todd Father came up with, may help. Kasper & McD need to go back to GR and we need Leonard back up along with MBN to see how his game’s improved. To me, Leonard more than showed he was a viable player.

The reality is, we’re still 3 players away from being a threat to the SCF; F, D, G. And honestly, until we figure out the back-end, we’re going to struggle. This team IS good, we just need a couple of guys to push us over the edge…..

We’re going to get there, but this year may not see us make a deep SCPO run….IF we make it.
