ParticipantKeep hearing Matthews to a California team for 2 1sts. Seems like San Jose.
I don’t believe it. That would mean they are rebuilding, which I think they have no appetite for. Instead, they will keep Matthews and fail miserably, again. I would not be surprised if they eventually let him walk for nothing. That would be the stupidest move, so it’s perfectly Leafy.
I wish they would make that trade for #2 AND #9. The problem I have is the Knies roomors. I would prefer they keep knies. He is young enough to be part of a rebuild. Now that Byram is gone, maybe those roomers go away.
San Jose getting real “interesting” offers for #2 overall. Leafs could do something huge if they played their cards correctly. Here’s just an example.
Matthews with 50% retained for #2, #9, Misa and an unprotected 1st in 2027.
Nylander with 50% retained to the NYR for #5, #26 and Will Cuylle.
Trade down from #1 to VAN for #3 and #24.
Leafs draft Stenberg #2, Reid #3, Carels #5, Verhoeff #9, L. Ruck #24 and M. Ruck #26.
Acquire Gallagher’s bad contract for a 2027 1st from MON
Acquire Hill’s bad contract for a 2028 1st from VGK2026 / 2027 / 2028 Line-up to avoid tanking too hard without a 1st round pick.
Knies | Tavares | Tarasenko
Stenberg | Misa | Arvidsson
Cuylle | Jenner | Cowan
Sissons | Stenlund | Acciari
Lorentz (Domi)OEL | Tanev
McCabe | Raddysh
Andrae | CarloHill
HildebyTrade veteran rentals at the 2028 deadline to a contender for more young players, prospects and draft capital.
2028/2029/2030 Line-up – Tanking is permitted for one/two years to add more elite players.
*Leafs would have a ridiculous amount of cap space to offer McDavid the absolute max contract possible.
Knies | Misa | Cowan
Stenberg | M. Ruck | L. Ruck
Cuylle | (Tavares Trade) | (Arvidsson Trade)
(Tarasenko Trade) |(1st from COL) | Holinka
(1st from MON)Carels | Reid
(OEL Trade) | Verhoeff
(Tanev Trade) | Danford
(McCabe Trade) | (Carlo Trade)Hildeby
Akhtyamov
2027 SJS 1st – Draft a goalie
2028 VGK 1st – Draft a goalieRebuild. Hard.

ParticipantRielly has given the Leafs 4 Western Teams he’d accept a trade to.
I think they are: Anaheim, LA, San Jose and Seattle.I thought Vancouver would be in that list.
Nobody knows what the list is yet, he’s just guessing. But Vancouver doesn’t make sense as they are horrible and Rielly probably would at least like to make the playoffs.
I’d say Seattle is on his list because they’re close to home and close to the playoffs.
Sometimes players use the list to squeeze one singular location so perhaps he has 3 teams that the Leafs absolutely will never be able to make a deal with because they have either no cap space, need or desire to acquire Rielly, like let’s say Vegas, Colorado and Florida and then pick the one team they DO want to force a trade to as the final team. That’s kind of what Brady Tkachuk did with his list as he was pretty guaranteed to land in Florida given his choices of Vegas, Carolina or Minnesota knowing full well those teams didn’t have the cap space, the assets or the desire to acquire him. And if they did acquire him, he’s instantly on a contender. Rielly doesn’t have that type of value or market but he could still squeeze himself into the most desirable location.

ParticipantI feel like ug hasn’t posted enough about a full rebuild – blowout up – to the studs – and especially haven’t heard enough about Matthews & Nylander at 50% retained. Not to mention the 31 first round picks leafs would get trading each player retained from their roster. Or wha his latest number 53 1sts?
Seriously man I’m concerned. I think I visit here once in blue now – but here you are relentlessly replying to each post as though everyone speaks directly to you. Get some help man. Nobody comes here because of you and your constant novels shutting on each and everything someone posts the leafs. It’s a sad thing to watch bud. I’m sorry for your life but stop taking it out on others eh

Maybe Rielly as a good backup plan, similar profile, good offence, weak defense. Just older.June 24, 2026 at 8:55 am #75746dmnted

Looking at what teams are getting right now, the Leafs could blow the doors off with the offers they’d get for Matthews and Nylander with 50% retained. 2nd and 9th would only be the start of what they could get for Matthews with 50% retained. Every contender in the West would be throwing offers at the Leafs and the highest bidder would win. It would be a gold mine.
The “rebuilding” could be something like Montreal. They went from drafting 1st overall to Conference Finals in 3 years. The Leafs would have to get back young roster players under 23, top prospects and elite top 10 picks to make it work that fast but it’s possible. They would all be young and cheap. They’d have plenty of cap space to acquire more 1st round picks for bad contracts. They’d also have many other assets to sell off like the entire blueline.
I agree, keep Knies because he’s young enough that he could survive a rebuild. You could always trade him later and his value would only increase.

ParticipantDummy, 2-3 late round picks (one was the 9th) is a far cry from 6-7 1st rounders.. youre just too stupid to tell.
You literally said it yourself one post prior you retard. “Matthews to San Jose for 2nd and 9th plus more”. Guess what? If the Leafs retained 50% of the salary, every contender in the West would be bidding for him. You could get Misa or Will Smith + 2nd + 9th and a 2027 1st EASILY for Matthews with 2 years left at 6.5 AAV. Nylander would get them a easily another three 1st round picks, maybe even four with 50% retained. The Leafs wouldn’t need the cap space anyway with so many players on ELC.
And that’s just two guys. It’s literally a full rebuild on steroids if the Leafs sold off OEL, Tanev, McCabe, eventually Tavares would get the hint and waive his NMC too…they could stock up not only on 1st round picks but top prospects, young roster players and turn the entire team over much faster than a normal “tank” rebuild.
Yes, it sucks we don’t have our own 1st round picks but if the return is big enough, it doesn’t matter. The Leafs would be fully stocked up on top draft picks, top prospects and young roster players that it wouldn’t matter. The Leafs could set themselves up for a decade if they played their cards right.
