The Vancouver Canucks are at the bottom of the NHL standings and have already started selling. They started off their rebuild when they traded star defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild. The Canucks then followed that up by trading gritty forward Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks.
While the Canucks have already been busy on the trade front this season, they are not expected to be done yet. Several more of their players have come up as trade candidates this season, and veteran forward Evander Kane is one of them. It is understandable, as the 34-year-old winger is a pending unrestricted free agent (UFA). The veteran forward also contributes offensively, plays a heavy game, and has 97 games of postseason experience. With this, it would make sense if he is a pretty popular target for contenders as we continue to get closer to the trade deadline.
Now, based on a new report, Kane is starting to generate interest.
According to ESPN’s Kevin Weekes, the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche are two “likely destinations” for Kane as the Canucks shop him.
Canucks’ Kane Would Be A Solid Addition For Either Of These Clubs
The Stars being interested in Kane is understandable. When looking at their current group, it is fair to argue that they could use another veteran top-nine forward, and Kane would provide them with just that if acquired. Furthermore, Kane’s playoff experience could make him a good fit on a Stars club that is looking to win the Stanley Cup this year.
As for the Avalanche, Kane would undoubtedly be a nice pickup for their roster as well. The Avalanche could use more offense in the bottom half of their lineup, and Kane would have the potential to give them that. The Canucks forward would also give the Avalanche a bit more bite, which would be good to have when the games get tougher during the playoffs.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see where Kane ends up landing, but it is clear that the Stars and Avalanche need to be watched in the sweepstakes. In 49 games this season, the 6-foot-2 forward has posted nine goals, 14 assists, 23 points, and 84 hits.
