I am astounded by many a Blackhawk reality. How poorly and unlucky they were to lose to the Canucks. How they were able to obtain a taste 1st rounder in 2027 for Dach and Jason Dickenson was a pretty nifty get. And the get that 2028 second rounder before the Oilers shopped for a defenseman elsewhere was also very fortunate. Steve called me to ask how old would I be before that prospect selected with it is ready to take a parent club role, and I said 82.

First game back and Wyatt Kaiser proves he is our best all-around defender whose stick and feet seem to get involved in so many facets.

Nice to have KK practice with the parent club, but right now he needs to bulk up and add more than his sharp passing and mobility. You gotta root for him because he is in a tight competition, although I thought Ethan Del mastro still struggles in his short area bursts.

Between the 2-3rd intermission, I “heard” Kyle say he he is trying to shake loose high end already drafted help, but no luck.
We all know no matter if THREE newcomers push for roles in the bigs, there scoring seems lacking a dominant high end attacker who checks ALL te boxes, unlike the complementary additions they have been able to fill the team with, at the cost of dollars, not many draft picks at all. Maybe now they can focus on feasible established gamble, because the Bedard show is going to have more nights when three crossbars derail his offense.

I hate to think I have detached myself from myself, becoming a complaining long term fan (in the same way there were so many Connor Murphy detractors, lumping their disappointment onto him),but I simply do not like Burakovsky. Yeah, I see his puck handles and the shot, but he leaves me wishing he wasn’t launched for lack of production & I believe, effort. I know I never could attain his levels, but he is making me mad. It is. Not like Ollie Moore is any better, or the other vet scorers who all show more effort. Is it me?

I have updated the 2026 mock after the trade deadline:

I agree Wiz Burakovsky stinks, but that’s okay we got kids coming as i posted on another thread, Bedard is becoming a stud, we just need 2 more forwards to become studs to make the playoffs and 3 to be a Stanley Cup contending team since we have all these young talented dmen developing already.

We are so close to being a fringe team, and a few more away from being a real nightmare. Step right up Frondell, Kansternov and Boisvert you’re next up.

They add the hardest forward shooter with Frondell, they look for their 3rd biggest potential shooter, Lardis, to play but there’s insn’t a ready for prime grind player. Is he destined to a 3rd line role guy playing with whichever name your about to read, the guy(s) doesn’t accomplish constitency with reagrds to generating and scoring: Frankie NAZAR, Oliie MOORE, in steady compitition with A.J. Spellacy filling in an attacking third, while the likes of the Vanacker, Kantserov, Boisevert, Behn, Pridman, Gavin Hayes, and then Nestrasil.

I pose a future that surely need more dominant scores.

Too much uncertainty again tonight, that they need alternative upgrades up front.

Anton Frondell has two ore league games before his Djurgårdens IF team will probably play the team that finished second over all in the SHL in a three game elimination series.

      Can’t wait to see Frondell.

I do agree Bedard is the only star for now. The only other forward with over 100 games is Nazar. I just see a very competitive young team with so much high end prospects in the system.

      Commesso looked great tonight

Do we have to round up everybody else?

Are they gone headed to Elbow’s site?

I love the way that article about the hawks taking a defenseman was written around Pronman’s list.

Defenseman CJ Reid is a more of a Morrisey type attcaker in my humble opinion.

I think before we go all in, we have to make sure we have solid projections on these defensers.

RD Keaton Verhoeff is about as far along as KK was, with a need for lots of polish before that large frane truly adds to the hawk backline later, as they phase out a young defender’s contract.

I have always had Reid in front of him.

So many think because he displays toughness and push back, that Smits is the beast that if taken adds another type agressive defender with skills, and I like him, a lot, but there is big runway to get him off the ground. He’ll have to go from a good first pass break-out of his end kid, to an all around competent two way generator as well.

I can pose as Kyle from Chicago, and put on blinders and see if I can fill in at big forward, I am going to wait and take malhotra Hemming, Suvanto or Belchetz, and ensure my farm has middle line up adds who DO have I high upside.

I just do not see them selecting a defenseman, unless they see so much abilty and tool box that he fills a Quinn Hughes type role down the path.

So you may see EVERY FORWARD as a high risk taken earlier, but I say take the guy who eventually sparks and elevates the group, big or small…

I could not find this site on the Forum page for quite a while. I was surprised they kept Slaggert over Dach. Help is coming, I think. There are still players on the roster who can be replaced I.E. #24. There will be a few veterans phased out, also. Looking forward to the future.

There is quite a lot of upside in his projection.

In 5 years you could have a heavy to play against force.

The shot is already harder than the hawks team currently has.

        He is quick, big determined.

Ah, I take it like I did Sevarelli’s (sp) between period insider “segments.”

You learned nothing about the sitting out.

Was it a benching as a wake up call? (THAT SEEMED TO BE THE IMPLICATION)

Was it a “Your leaving anyway…?”

Was he nicked up, has a flu bug?

Was it really REPORTED? The TV segement left that absence from the college playoffs as “ON Sasha situation and smelled of balming him.”

I guess if he plays again or doesn’t brings forth evidence of what is what.

Man oh man the boys were flying tonight, tough turn over by Vlasic, but Burakovskys drop pass was brutal.

That’s the beauty of these kids coming, i prefer the inexperience youthful effort compared to the same dumb mistakes by vets.

Nazar looks like he’s back to the form he was before the Calgary injury.

By the way Frondell with an EN goal and apple today cant wait to see him and Bedard feeding one another the puck and the goalie won’t know which shot to take away

If you were expecting Sacha to be a play driver, he was never one. More of a solid defending player, with really nice shot. And it’s all the better if he signs, and spends the developmental time to get himself ready for a second signing at a moderately lower resign, b/c there is no projected top line expectations and will be offered that of a mid lineup forward WHEN he re-ups. Whether he plays in Rockford or the bigs isn’t going to do anything to change that. He needs time and support and I am sure the young bloods will welcome him into the system.
That draft was the one where Isle’s GM dropped down two slots to #20 so the hawks could jump up to and take Boisvert.
I know many of you liked the allure of gym rat physically engaged, but man, I like the other three taken better: Trevor Connell (attitudes), Cole Eiserman (200 foot engagement) and Micheal Hage (no chinks in the armor and got bigger).
I’d love for the Hawks to have gotten this right and make me look like a rookie observer again.

And I am willing to bet Sacha B plays in their next playoff game.

I’m not really expecting anything from Sacha other than a hard working hockey player who doesn’t pass up putting a body on a body. What i think is he’ll be one of these grinders on the ice with a very good shot.

If he could be a good defensive player who goes to the corners the front of the net, punishes opponents and can score 20 goals a year, in my humble opinion you have yourself a valuable playoff hockey player.

      Hey hey Wiz!

Saw your lates mock, interesting to say the least. A lot of people had Verhoeff penciled in as #2 at the start of the year, some claiming he could even be the #1 pick. But from everything you’ve written,it seems like he is in more of the Korchinski/Arty mold where he’ll need a few more years before he can be in NHL.

Saw this video on Tynan Lawrence

This guy seems to think he is quite overrated.
Was just wondering your opinion and what makes Malhotra a better prospect

I dropped him to slot nine, more because I think the run on defnsmean will start and the big four will go quickly.

It is not so much Tynan lawrence is in any way a drop, as the fact he was a centre in a weak top end at the [psoition, that elevated him early.

Malhortra is more of the type of addition I want the hawks to fill their line-up in with.

It is clear they boith play. I am just trying to have the balckhawks get bigger and more skilled.

And I am wondering if they do not win the lottery with their current #3, if the look for a scoring left defender, as if KK is the next youth turnover.

I am just thinking at #3 Smits is too high and rich for my blood. Maybe Cason carels is the middle ground.

I want Malhotra Survanto and Oscar Hemming in the first round, but what if the Florida pick wins and the hawk pick gets second? YTou basically HAVE to draft one of each position, right?

I always forget there are 2 different set of rules for the NHL, ones for the vets and one for the kids. So many non calls on Vegas last night, then you see the crap Matheson pulled on Chernyshov, wtf?

It’s really my only gripe about the NHL, just do your job refs and as i said before and will say again and again, any hit to the head the player should be thrown out of the game.

We keep forgetting about Vanacker. There are a couple of other guys coming up, too. I don’t know if anyone noticed Blashill’s reaction to Arty. Whenever he is pressured, he gives up the puck. Knight had to make a save because Arty lost the puck and you could see Blashill’s frustration. He should have been sent to Rockford at the beginning of the season. And why doesn’t he ever shoot the puck? I know I sound like a broken record, but he isn’t ready for the Not Here Long league. Why is it that NHL refs ignore Bedard constantly getting mugged? Time to fire every idiot at the office of player safety. They are a joke. And to put Sarro’s in charge? The man was a goon!!!!!

      • #68146
        BetweenTheDots
        Participant

The way i understand it, 1 they are working on Arty’s shot last night i saw an instance where Arty tried to force it, blocked, and he hustled back to get the puck.

The pass to Bedard with a couple of minutes left was a thing of beauty, I’ve said this before, why allow him develop bad habits in a lesser league if he can physically handle the NHL.

Has he had some bad games or bad plays absolutely, but they all do and keep in mind he’s only played 80 NHL games so far and on the flip side kids don’t get many calls, LVGK game there was a blatant hold on Arty no call which led to turnover??? This happens to often to the kids on defense. In the long run it will make them better tougher players but until then….

        Vlasic 245 GP
        Kaiser 160 GP
        Crevier 120 GP
        Arty 80 GP
        Rinzel 48 GP
        Del Mastro 32 GP
        ………685 GP

        Connor Murphy 812 GP

And we are a better team than we’ve been for the past 3 years.

Didn’t forget Vanacker, I’m just excited they signed Boisvert, and KD usually plays them with the big club the year they come out of college so it’ll be exciting to see a fresh new face on the ice with potential.

We have to expect before or after the additions of Frondell, Vanacker, A J Spellacy, Pridham, Kantserov, Boisvert are in the line-up, a trade for a Brady Thachuk has to accelerate things.

I expect to see a Hawk offer of Vlasic, a unprotected number 1, and an established vet (off the current roster), and a young rostered kid.

I refuse to praise the great Arty stretch pass and prefer to use it to cancel out yet another time when he is in the slot and HAS to SHOOT on net and doesn’t.

Quint had the Hawks sucking for air in the OT.

I am certainly hoping Spence plays tomorrow….

There is a rumor out there that the Blackhawks are interested in Knies but the price tag is to high.

I’m still of the belief of, if you accumulate more talent up and down your line up who are willing to engage defensively like Lardis unlike Reichel, you don’t need to target a specific player.

Nice game by the Blackhawks tonight, finally beat the Wild.

The one glaring weakness is scoring, defense is great, killing the 5 on 3 outstanding. Was that really a trip?

The scoring will come with the kids coming, exciting times.

It was infuriating with 4:11 that the refs don’t “get” the punch Middleton throws (with his glove on) Donato, as goon McCarron is already engaging him.

There needs to be a suspension.

Young rearguards with fluidity is the teams strength, and keystone Conner up front.

If the Hawks do draft a defender in 2026 Draft, Vlasic & Crevier start realizing that puts one or both of them in a get-better or get traded situation,

A backlog of defenseman that can continue excelling start to become the type of trade assests that secure a young forward upgrade that physically adds to the frontlines.

I seriously doubt they are shaking up the young backline and pick(s) for Matt Knies at this juncture.

There could be a logjam when 4 new youngsters introduce themselves to the league.

But they need another hit along the dominating score.

Is he in the system? Here already? Unsigned?, or are the smallish 57 and 8 secure in their pay checks b/c there are no replacements yet?

      • #68276
        BetweenTheDots
        Participant

I don’t know who 57 is, but 8 is only a place holder same with Mikheylev.

You know me Wiz I’m all for let it all play out, we don’t know what we have in forwards yet but just the few we have at the NHL level are playing great relatively speaking.

This team is going to be really good really soon, trade or no trade we are just seeing the seedlings sprouting and there’s a lot to like in how they play as a team right now.

TT will probably be wearing another sweater, but I think Bertuzzi stays. Time for some new blood. It may take them some time to gel, but next season looks like it will be worth the wait. They need to learn how to forecheck and take the body. They also need to protect the front of the net better. Unless they trade Donoto, he will be back.

Some one some where was asking about the draft pick centre playing in the Swiss league,
      JIRI FELCMAN

Tall and lanky centre is under-developed but still needs to fill out his big frame. He is a fine playmaker with a long loping stride but it lacks power and that first step burst. He really sees the ice well and reads the plays and well and will step up into gaps and intercept passes and take them in transition the other way after snatching them in the neutral zone. Has a strong stick in the face-off circle has soft hands to transport out elsewhere. When he spreads out, it is almost impossible to move him off it. Gives good effort defensively and once he gains strength and starts to be the sum of his parts, his game may take a jump upwards. That is what third rounders are suppose to do:take a longer development time to get to a higher competitive level.
