New Canadiens Connection: What We Learned

It’s funny how quickly emotions can change in the NHL playoffs: One week, we’re talking about whether Montreal Canadiens fans should dare to dream. The next, we’re trying to make sense of a season that’s suddenly over.

If you’re a Habs fan who is feeling caught between a lot of different emotions surrounding the Canadiens and their playoff run (and exit) right now, it’s totally understandable.

There’s disappointment, of course. When a team gets within seven wins of the raising the Stanley Cup, it’s hard not to wonder what might have been. And sure, the Canadiens accomplished plenty: they won multiple playoff rounds, gained valuable experience, learned things about their roster, their coaching staff, and their young core that simply couldn’t have been learned any other way.

The question now is what to do with those lessons.

What did the Carolina Hurricanes expose? What worked for Montreal throughout this run, and what didn’t? And what needs to change if this team wants to take the next step from conference finalist to legitimate Stanley Cup contender?
