The Edmonton Oilers have signed center Jason Dickinson to a five-year contract, the team announced Sunday. The new deal will see the 30-year-old earn a $4 million per year.
Dickinson, along with Colton Dach, was acquired by the Oilers on March 4th, 2026, from the Chicago Blackhawks. In exchange, Edmonton is giving Chicago a 2027 first-round pick and disgruntled winger Andrew Mangiapane.
Dickinson registered a goal and three assists for four points in 17 regular-season games down the stretch for the Oilers. He added two goals and one assist for three points in four playoff games. Dickinson was one of the many injured Oilers players heading into the playoffs. He suffered a broken foot after blocking a shot against the San Jose Sharks on April 8th.
Rumours were circulating about what Dickinson’s next contract could look like. Some reports were suggesting a new deal could be in the range of $5 million AAV. The Oilers are getting him for a million less, likely because they gave him a five-year deal. Mark Spector from Sportsnet reported on Saturday that there was “very positive movement towards a deal” regarding Edmonton and Dickinson.
This is the second pending free agent the Oilers have signed heading into the July 1st free agency period. The team signed goaltender Connor Ungar to a one-year contract on Thursday.
Oilers to Re-Sign Another
According to Ryan Rishaug of TSN, Edmonton is close to signing defenseman Connor Murphy to a new contract. Rishaug noted that a new deal might be reached in the early part of this week.
Murphy’s four-year contract, which he signed with the Chicago Blackhawks in August 2021, has ended. The deal carried a $4.4 million AAV. Expect a pay increase on his new deal.
The Oilers gave up a second-round pick for Murphy ahead of the NHL trade deadline last season. He registered a goal and three assists for four points in his 20 regular-season games with Edmonton. He finished the season averaging 20:27 of ice time.
