Mammoth Were Busy On Monday

The Utah Mammoth made a minor trade on Monday. They acquired forward Joshua Roy from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Max Szuber. 

Last season, Roy appeared in three games for the Canadiens. He was pointless and finished even in plus/minus. In 57 games for Laval in the AHL, he registered 23 goals and 22 assists for 45 points. He was a minus-six with eight power-play goals.

In five playoff games, he scored two goals, was a minus-four with a power-play goal and a game-winning goal. Szuber registered 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points in 65 games for the Tucson Roadrunners in the AHL. He was a plus-two with two power-play goals.

The Canadiens drafted Roy 150th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. In three seasons at Laval, he registered 56 goals and 56 assists for 112 points in 145 games. He had 20 power-play goals and nine game-winning goals during that span. In 19 playoff games, the 22-year-old registered six goals and six assists for 12 points. In 38 NHL games, he registered six goals and five assists for 11 points.

Szuber, in 200 AHL games, registered 25 goals and 62 assists for 87 points. He was a +13 with three power-play goals and two game-winning goals. In five playoff games, he had an assist and was a plus-one. The 23-year-old appeared in one career NHL game. He was a minus-one.

The Mammoth then signed Roy to a one-year, two-way contract, worth $850,000 at the NHL level.

Mammoth Re-Sign Kailer Yamamoto

On Monday, Utah also announced the signing of forward Kailer Yamamoto to a two-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $1.75 million.

Yamamoto, 27, skated in 59 games for the Mammoth last season, registering 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points and 14 penalty minutes (PIM). He also added a goal and 4 assists for 5 points in six postseason games. He posted the second-best shooting percentage on the Mammoth (21.7%) among players who played in at least 35 games last season. 

“Kailer is a versatile forward that wins battles and can produce offense for us,” said Bill Armstrong, GM of the Utah Mammoth. “Kailer is important to our team, and we are thrilled that he will return to the Mammoth.”

Nick DeSimone Re-Signs

Defenseman Nick DeSimone has re-signed with the Mammoth on a two-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $1 million. He registered 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points and 10 penalty minutes (PIM) in 40 games last season.

“Nick has added important depth on our blue line and plays a simple, consistent game,” said Bill Armstrong. “He skates well, moves the puck effectively, and is the consummate professional.”
