New Canadiens Connection: Coaching Changes

The Montreal Canadiens may not have made a major roster move this week, but they do appear to be making an important addition behind the bench.

It’s being reported that Trevor Letowski is stepping down as an assistant coach, and that the organization hopes to keep him in a different role. It also appears former Detroit Red Wings’ head coach Derek Lalonde is set to join Marty St. Louis’ staff. Can he provide an experienced hand on the tiller that Montreal has been lacking?

That move is certainly worth discussing on its own, but it also provides a good opportunity to take a step back and look at the coaching staff as a whole. What about Stephane Robidas and Marco Marciano? When will St. Louis receive his extension? And don’t forget about the important vacancy in Laval!

Who’s responsible for what? Where are this group’s biggest strengths? Are there areas that could still use some fresh ideas or additional experience? And now that the staff appears to be taking shape for next season, should Canadiens’ fans expect any other changes before training camp?
