The National Hockey League dropped their 2026-27 regular season schedule Thursday, one which sees a return to an 84-game season. This upcoming season marks the third occasion the Ottawa Senators will play an 84-game schedule, having not done so since 1993-94, which was only their second NHL campaign.

In addition, the new schedule provides a fresh balance within divisional play, no more imbalance. Each team will face divisional opponents four times, two home, two away.

The Senators will play 24 games versus Metropolitan Division opponents, a total of three games apiece.

The following Metro teams will make two visits to the Canadian Tire Centre: Columbus, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Washington.

Ottawa will play a pair of away games versus Carolina, New Jersey, New York Islanders, Pittsburgh.

Western Conference scheduling remains status quo with the Senators playing one game, home and away against each club.

Senators schedule notes:

Though the NHL season gets underway September 29, the Senators have to wait until October 3 to make their 2026-27 debut. The Senators will play on the first Saturday of the season in Toronto, and have two more road games versus Bruins, Red Wings prior to their home-opener October 8 against the Flyers.

Two highlights; the Senators make their fourth sojourn to Europe, this time to Dusseldorf, Germany facing the Chicago Blackhawks December 18-20.

Brady Tkachuk makes his return to Ottawa with the Florida Panthers October 21.

Senators longest home stand is six games, January 20 through February 9, but this includes a bye week and All Star break.

Twenty-four of 41 away games come in five swings. The Senators are loaded with four five-game road trips and one four-game. What may be a crucial roadie comes in late March when Ottawa travels to Atlantic Divisional opponents Montreal, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, before ending on Long Island.

One bonus, the Senators do not play game outside of their time zone after February 22.

Back-to-backs

Ottawa plays 14 back-to-backs, identical to last season, tied for the second-most alongside four other teams. Once again the Senators have a pair of back-to-back weekends at home in March.

Per Sports1440’s Jason Gregor, the Senators play the third-fewest games (8) versus teams who are on their second game of a back-to-back.

Afternoon outings

The Senators cut back on afternoon games, by scheduling only four, with two coming during the week.

Ottawa play Buffalo at 2 p.m., Monday December 14 and host a New Year’s Eve matinee against the Penguins in their only visit to the CTC.

With an eye towards increasing their international footprint, the NHL are scheduling select games, Monday afternoon to be aired in what is primetime in Europe.

The Senators also play at 1:00 p.m. ET in Nashville, Monday November 30.

Their other two games prior to 5 p.m. are Saturday, January 23 3:30 p.m. versus the Blue Jackets and Saturday, March 6th at 3:30 p.m. against Seattle.
