New Canadiens Connection: Winning Identity

We’ve spent a lot of time in recent weeks talking about what the Montreal Canadiens have or haven’t added and what we expect this team to accomplish this season. But now that the season has officially begun, it’s time to ask the question: what kind of team are the Canadiens actually going to be?

Every team needs to figure out what it does well and what it wants to be known for, and that identity can come from a lot of different places. It can be about how you play with the puck, how you defend, how hard you are to play against, how you use your depth, or simply the way all four lines contribute to winning hockey games.

Marty St. Louis has talked about wanting the Canadiens to have more consistency in that regard, rather than necessarily having four lines with completely different jobs or personalities. That’s an interesting idea, especially when you look at the players who are likely to make up the bottom half of this lineup.

This Week’s Show

On this week’s Canadiens Connection podcast, we want to explore things like: what does that actually look like on the ice? Head coach Marty St. Louis has a vision and has articulated an identity for his team. Do they have the tools on hand to actually execute it?

We also discussed these important topics on this week’s episode of the podcast:

  • Canadiens open the 2026-27 NHL season in much the same way that they advanced through the playoffs.
  • Prospect Michael Hage dazzles in his first NCAA game this season for Michigan.
  • Laval Rocket open their AHL season with a two-game home stand.

CC Question of the Week: How can the Montreal Canadiens realistically improve their bottom six to consistently establish their identity across all four lines?

It is our ninth season, with a new episode of the podcast dropping every Saturday afternoon. Be sure to subscribe using your favorite podcast app. Or watch our episodes on YouTube.
