Last week, we spent time talking about the challenges facing the Montreal Canadiens and what this team would need to do to get through a difficult stretch without their captain. Things have gone pretty well since then. The Habs went on a four-game road trip and came home with four wins demonstrating that they are beginning to learn important lessons. That’s an impressive result, especially considering some of the circumstances surrounding this team over the past few weeks.

After returning to Montreal, the Canadiens opened a three-game home stand with a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

But, there’s something more interesting here than just a five-game winning streak. When a team goes through a stretch like this, one can start to get a better sense of what it’s made of. We are all able to learn a little more about its character, its capabilities, and perhaps even where it stands in its development. We can also start to reconsider some of the things we thought we knew about the group.

And that’s really what we want to get into today, not just what went right on the road trip, but what the Canadiens’ recent experiences are teaching us about this team. Some of these lessons have been encouraging, others are still unfolding, and a couple might be a little surprising.

This Week’s Show

On this week’s episode of the Canadiens Connection podcast, we take a step back, look at the bigger picture, and talk about the lessons learned—or perhaps, in some cases, the lessons still being learned—by the Montreal Canadiens.
