Strome Acquired by Flames for Seventh Round Pick in 2027

The Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks came to a deal on Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline. Headed to Calgary is 32 year old center Ryan Strome. On the way to Anaheim is a 2027 seventh round draft pick.

The Flames get a right shot center with one more season on a contract that carries an annual average value of $5,000,000.

Strome, a veteran of 13 NHL seasons between the New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and Anaheim Ducks, has seen his minutes dialed back this year.

2024-25: 16:41
2025-26: 12:10

This is a deal that may be a precursor. With trades still pouring through the NHL Head Office, it’s possible that the Flames have acquired a replacement for Nazem Kadri, who as it stands, remains a Calgary Flame.

Strome has three goals and six assists for nine points in 33 games this season. The Missisauga, Ontario product has also been pushed to the wing with the addition of Ryan Poehling. With Poehling signing a four year, $15,000,000 ($3,750,000 AAV) deal earlier this month; the writing was on the wall for Strome and the Ducks.

The seventh round pick is in 2027 due to general manager Craig Conroy dealing their own seventh round pick in 2026 in exchange for a 2025 seventh round pick. The acquired pick was used to select Russian center Yan Matvieko.
