Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins hit all the right notes last night. They improved their season record to 7-2-1 and continue to be one of the surprise teams early on in the season. After scoring two goals in the first minute of the game they finished the period tied. They stuck with it and entered the third with a one-goal lead.
Instead of the trailing St. Louis Blues climbing back into the game, the Penguins put up a third period three-spot to win 6-3.
Aside from the win, it was another big night for Sidney Crosby and his place in hockey history
Another huge milestone for Sidney Crosby
With Sidney Crosby’s assist on Bryan Rust’s goal in the third period he has reached the 1,700 point milestone for his illustrious career.
Crosby is currently 9th overall in career points for his career at 1,701. He has a shot at finishing the year as the 6th overall scorer in the league’s history. Up next in his chase, some dude named Mario Lemieux at 1,723 points. After him it is another one of his idols in Steve Yzerman at 1,755. Marcel Dionne is 6th at 1,771. Sid has 72 more games to get 70 points and that is certainly within his abilities.
Where Crosby should be
While Crosby’s numbers are among the best who have ever played the game. I will always point out that he was robbed of the years he was in his athletic prime by David Steckel’s cheap shot in the Winter Classic.
I ran the numbers on how many goals and points Sidney Crosby lost out on while on his multi-season recovery
It isn’t a stretch that he should be around 718 goals and 1,939 points right now.
What a shame Crosby’s resume will be missing chunks of what should have been his best statistical seasons of his career. This also highlights just how ridiculous he’s been to still be climbing up the ranks the way he has. One of the best to ever do it.
Geno Machino keeps going
Evgeni Malkin added another two points on the season last night. Which means, ten games into the season he is tied for the overall lead in points (16) with Jack Eichel and Nick Schmaltz. He leads all players with 13 assists.
This is a man on a mission to be given another contract. I don’t believe for a second he wants to retire and he is going to do everything in his power for it to not be his last season.
Here was his handy work on the assist to Mantha last night
It’s the 2025-26 season and it is the same as it ever was. The Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin show
Another call up from WB/S
Owen Pickering was not able to make the team out of camp. However, he is getting his chance to join the big club as he has received the call to come back to Pittsburgh.
The left side of the Penguins defense is the biggest weakness on the team and there are going to be opportunities for players to step in and take it. Pickering will have the chance to take the role and run with it and I’m willing to bet that is the exact outcome the Penguins want.
The Penguins are back in action tonight when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers for an early 6PM start.
