Flames Trade Nazem Kadri to Colorado Avalanche

Sitting well past the 3 P.M. EST. NHL Trade Deadline, Flames fans sat in limbo wondering if a deal including Nazem Kadri would be announced.

Over an hour past the deadline, hope was dwindling.

And then, a spark. A fire in the light. Nazem Kadri is headed to the Colorado Avalanche.

The Calgary Flames are retaining 20% of the remainder of Kadri’s contract carrying an annual average value of $7,000,000 for three more seasons. His cap hit with the Avalanche will be $5,600,000 annually.

Max Curran

A member of the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL as well as a contributor on the U-20 World Junior Hockey Championship silver medal winning Czech squad, Max Curran is a six-foot-three all-positions forward who does his best work in tight. A fifth round pick in 2024, the 19 year old is committed to the University of Massachusetts next season.

A veteran of 16 NHL seasons, Kadri has been Calgary’s number one center for the past four years. The London, Ontario product has collected 100 goals and 139 assists for 239 points in 307 games. This season, Kadri has 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points in 61 games.

Victor Oloffson

The Flames also get left winger Victor Olofsson, who has 11 goals and 14 assist for 24 points in 60 games with the Colorado Avalanche this season.

An unrestricted free agent on July 1, Olofsson is nearing the end of his one-year $1,575,000 contract.

One More Trade

The Flames have also acquired left winger Brennan Othmann from the New York Rangers. A 2021 first round pick, Othmann has bounced between the Rangers and Hartford, their AHL affiliate, this year. The return is 2024 second round pick Jacob Battaglia.

Othmann, 23, has one goal in the NHL this season and eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 26 points in the AHL.

Battaglia took a bit of a step back this season. The six-foot-one winger fell below a point per game (43 points in 58 games) after putting up 40 goals and 50 assists for 90 points in 68 games last season.

The Flames lineup after the 2026 Trade Deadline now projects as the following:

Zary-Frost-Farabee
Coleman-Backlund-Coronato
Sharangovich-Strome-Gridin
Lomberg-Pospisil-Klapka

Bahl-Whitecloud
Määttä-Pachal
Kuznetsov-Parekh
